I left the bridge as I thought it might add a little stiffness, and wasn't sure if removing it might leave damage to the stays... Was quite the deliberation I went through.
Thanks!
I thought of keeping the bridge, as you said, for stiffness, and shaving the actual cable stop as I don't like the fact it would be surplus to requirments... -

Loic, have you got a photo of the bridge and cable stop?
-
• #129
Pretty sure the bridge was tig welded in, not tidily either....

From Theo's pictures on page two.
Will take a better picture tonight if I remember...

Les is now build.
I'm still waiting from some tyres to arrive so this is not the final wheelset... But I really wanted to test-ride it so put these for now.
Couple of things to settle still. Recessed bolts for the brakes as the frame allows for it, and other minor things but I'm pretty done here. I don't really like that saddle, I need to find something better looking I think...
Really enjoyed the first ride yesterday. I really think the size is fine. I could do with a slightly shorter stem (I raised it by 10-15mm since the picture was taken and it's already much better)...
I was even thinking of a seatpost "a la Gaston" actually, I want to be more forward on the bike... I'll see how it feels as it goes, but so far I'm happy!

Looks good, I'm eating my words.
How about a bar with less drop?
-

Thanks!
How about a bar with less drop?
That would make sense, but these bars are the main reason I wanted a lo pro. I bought these bars because I always wanted to own them, got them in good condition and waited for a project to go with them.

Oh and BTW I did as you suggested last week, I did not remove the extra rear bridge, only the little cable stop that could always be re-brased if someone really really really wanted to use centre pull brake (if they can find some with a drop that would fit 700c rims, which I have no idea who make them) and would insist not using a cable stop combined to the seat post cluster "a la surly"... I like the idea that this extra bridge may add to stiffness...

And lo, on the third day the puppy was resurrected from the dead.
Nice work Loic.

Do you have any pictures from how it was build up originally?
-
• #137
Yes, good to see it with gears again. Are my eyes tricking me, or is the chainring on the inside of the spider? I'd reckon for my money it would look better on the outside, but maybe there are chainline issues

yes that's the case, chainline issue... apart from the brakes, everything on that bike is stuff I had in stock... I intend to get the right length bb to sort that out... but I'll wait a bit... I want to ride out now!

Chapeau for anti puppying les and giving it gears once more.

Hurrah! Well done veLLo - I think he looks ace. Quite a life this bike has lead.

I agree! I bet you did not miss what I wrote a few posts back:
I was even thinking of a seatpost "a la Gaston" actually, I want to be more forward on the bike...
Can I just turn around my current seat post?
-
• #145
Oh, I took it to work today... with a massive heavy courier bag on my back... Interesting...

Just so you know, I feel guilty for chopping of Les's bits now...
How're your wrists feeling after that ride?
If you want to run those bars, maybe you should ergostem?

If you want to run those bars, maybe you should ergostem?Re the chopped hanger, as first I was like "WTF!?" (I did not know it was you either BTW, as I did not know about your change of forum name), but not so much now... Don't feel bad, it was pretty easy to have it re-braze, thanks to Mario Vaz.
I did chop the cable stop on the extra brake bridge now I know it's so easily reversible (and also no centre pull brake known on the planet fits that clearance anyway, but whatever...)Wrists are OK, but a more forward position as Gaston said really makes sense on that bike.
I never really liked ergostems, although it might be appropriate here...

Yeah I always felt bad as I had intended to keep Les for a long term project, with looking at the extra seatstay bridge, dropout replacement and paint on the horizon, but something else came up which was too good to pass on so Les got sold.
I genuinely never expected him to be geared again, makes me smile to see his transformation now!

I googled that! Not cheap...
I have ordered a super cheap alloy seatpost like this:
... that I will be combining with one of these that I have a spare of:
At least it will give me the opportunity to try a more forward position without spending fortunes and it should not look too ghetto...
I left the bridge as I thought it might add a little stiffness, and wasn't sure if removing it might leave damage to the stays... Was quite the deliberation I went through.
