  • I swear it's too small for Loic.

  • Le muchos sigh.

  • ^^we chucked some bits on and he thinks it's ok, and besides who could resist that sexy pink

  • Bai ... I loves you...

  • Damn...

  • Loic has saddle very forward, and apparently he is a bit of a t-rex.
I thought it would be too small, but if he says it works, hey - it works.

  • Pretty sure its a 60 or 62 seat tube, based in his other bikes am sure it will be fine....

  • Effective TT?

  • Effective TT?

    1. st doesnt count as much on lo pros..
  • What does count?

  • seattube*

  • st doesnt count as much on lo pros..

unless of course the st is longer than your normal bb - saddle rail distance

  • I swear it's too small for Loic.

MMh, you are the second person to say that... we'll see...

If it's wrong, it will just go to the next forum member, simple!

  • Whatever you do with it, please post it in this thread and keep it going!

  • Who's got him now?

  • erm... veLLo?

  • veLLo, please treat ol' Les to the track ends he has earned. I still miss the bugger.

  • little bird told me les is getting a mech hanger back on

little bird told me les is getting a mech hanger back on

~~"Track ends" / dropouts originally had a gear hanger that was chopped (as everybody knows here...). Something like this, kind of:

    http://vintagebikecave.com/wp-content/uploads/DSCF2053.jpg

...except that they were much shorter in terms of adjustment possibilities, as it was often the case on TT bikes (the ones I've seen at least)~~

/\ /\ /\ irrelevant comment from me above... OP shows this perfectly sorry...

I am having the gear hanger re-brased, onto the original ends/dropouts, which will be unchanged.

Because the dropouts/ends are not replaced (which is good as the tubes don't get heated again), and because I have insisted that frame builder (Vaz's brother) wraps the frame in wet clothes during the brazing, the damage to the pink powercoated paint (which I intend to keep) should be minimum. Maybe a bit of touch-up will be necessary, but nothing major I hope...

This way the bike can be used with TT or fixed wheels, as originally intended.

I do not have a track wheelset I can use on this, so I will for now use a road wheelset I have (with a TT 5 speed block). Crankset with only one chainring (50 or 52T), single lever downtube shifter, centre pull mafac-like brake (the frame has braze on for centre pull, hence the choice...)

I'll see how it looks / rides, and take it from there...

  • Thinking of custom transfers too... maybe...

  • Will everybody here be upset if I don't make this fixed?

  • I'm upset to read that puppies were killed. Have some rep for restoring it.

  • This will be awesome.

I made a design for decal as well at some point, but I never got them made up.

  • Will everybody here be upset if I don't make this fixed?

I'm glad you're going to un-puppy-kill it, but also glad you're keeping the pink .

  • I picked up the frame from Mario on sat, hanger is back... once cleaned / polished, you don't see much of the damage once the wheel and rear mech is on so this is still a flashy pink frame, not a beater style paintwork...

I started building the bike yesterday afternoon. The BB gave me a bit of trouble on the non drive side. I could not use any of my old cup style BBs because none of the axles I had in my spares were the right lenght, so I had to do with a recent shimano sealed one, which is a bit too long but fits OK, I'll build the bike like that, ride it a bit, and get it changed in a bike shop for one of the perfect lenght one, I'll ask them to re-taper the threads on this occasion.

I have a dilema with regards to the brakes. I thought I would use centre pull vintage brakes (mafac style), which would have beed perfect as I have a nice set of them, and the frame has a dedicated bridge for this at the back. But, these centre pull brakes (these ones in particular, but most centre pulls I came accross - mafac, weinman, shimano), have quite a long reach. They could work at the back with the pads set that the higer position, but the clearance is way too narrow at the front, I need normal calipers... Also, the fork steerer is a tat too short and there is no space to fit the centre pull cable stop...
I would hate to have a different style of brakes front and back, so I'll go for calipers. So that bridge is now redundant. As pointed out by Theo, and I agree with him, that bridge was a later addition to the frame. It's quite obvious as the quality of the brazing it inferior to the rest of the frame. Also, I'd never seen such a big bridge for centre pull cable stop, they are usually much smaller... I am quite tempted to remove that bridge because it only served a vey specific purpose at some point, but unless I miss something, it does not really make sense... but I'd like to hear what people here think... Opinions please?

Can't wait to ride that bike!
