• tack-x holder and two alloy cages seems like

• fuck yes. now we can be tribar lopro buddies/bumboys/bumbcluts (delete as appropriate)

• so I got the shims for the aerobars finally but as I was fitting them I noticed something and realised that the clicking noise my stem sometimes makes probably has something to do with the cracks spreading out from the bolt holes...

Does anyone have a black 26.0 80mm clamp quill stem I can buy cheaply or borrow for Saturday? I was kindly given a 70 a while ago but it's too short. Or black 25.4 clamp pursuit bars? I will just ride the cracking stem if not so you may be saving me from DEATH (in the face).

• Sorry to hear the 80mm is failing you, on the flipside, can I haz the 70mm for the OrBroSki?

• yes but you'll need to get a bolt for it (I borrowed one out of another stem)

• How about the bolt from teh dead one ha? nah am sure I can sort it...

I've got a 100mm pro stem you could borrow if worst comes to worst?

• I've got a 100mm somewhere but I think the only way I could ride with that is on stretched way out on the aerobars at all times... I might use it.

The 70 is a Cinelli 1A so you can't just put a regular bolt in.

• Ok so although the cracking probably isn't good that isn't what was making the clicking noise. That must have been the stem slipping in the steerer tube or something, as it came loose completely today and won't tighten enough now (I could ride on it but not hard, can't skid, etc.). Lucky this happened on an empty road where I could fall safely and with as much grace as I could manage, and not halfway down Reigate Hill...

It sucked having to ride home gently without skidding, and it was so windy the stem actually came loose again just by the force involved in keeping my wheel straight against the gusts.

• I don't know if this is funny or not, but I had a stem fail at the bar clamp on a outing with Les... Allen bolt pulled the thread right out of the metal! Was pretty scary, the airwings I had on just went floppy, no injury incurred.

Maybe his way of saying, give me back my risers bitch!

• shit! I do have the risers on another bike atm actually, maybe I should at least take them off that...

Also in that^^ picture the coat I'm wearing is a bit too big and I had stuff in the breast pockets, which meant riding on the aerobars every pedal stroke my knees would hit the pockets - it's quite low.

• looks like you need to raise your saddle...

#armchairbikefit

• 29 cm saddle to bar drop not enough for you?

• sorry, I was feeling in a mildly facetious mood when I wrote that and I'm a long way from being an expert on bike fit so if it works for you then great. But, the reason I mentioned it has nothing to do with the saddle to bar drop (which is hardly a measure of appropriate fit as it is), but because it looks like you have a lot of bend in your knee despite being reasonably close to the bottom of the pedal stroke. I may be a mile off because it's almost impossible to assess in a single static photo but thats just the way it looks to me. alternatively, I may be right and you just like it that way, I have my saddle a bit lower on my pub/commuter bike and love it, but on a TT bike it just struck me as a bit incongruous.

• thats just Theo's legs, on that pic they are stretched as much as they can. at East Beers we call him Le District 9's Prawn.

• Possibly ewanmac...but this bike will never go near a TT...its a purposefully uncomfortable HHSB...what it lacks in practicality it exponentially makes up for in radness :)

• ^^^I misread your post/had just measured the drop earlier and wanted to post it which is why I came back with that. Saddle is fine normally and maybe needs shifting for the aero bars but then what apollo said is true so yeah.

Martin don't spread misinformation about my legs...

Anyway I got bored while I was playing with different stems and decided to try an experiment:

so yes saddle height is probably the least of the issues when it comes to setting up this bike badly

• like a spacecraft
install laser lights on the extensions and make shooting sounds whilst riding

oh lord

• real man are all about aero extensions on porteur bars

• I hate seeing that Cannondale :(

• You should have tried harder not to be so tall.

• what are the tri bars you are using? look amazing, i'm desperately after some for my bike atm!

• Deda no?

• Farewell sweet Les, I know you will be reborn in a different but just as rad form.

preparing for nerg storm...
