Yeah okay, fair enough.

Any chance of the BIG MOTOR BIKES being used this year?
-
• #104
Last time I saw those I was a young man.
And by the end of the race I was very, very old.

Chris Hoy is a 4th cat.
There are no road points for track sprint. It's open to everyone to enter, but the discretion of the organiser as to whether you get accepted or not.
Actually he's a 3rd if we are being pedantic, but Philip Hindes is a 4th.

As I scored a total of 2 points (I think) in the track league last year I am IN!

Really? What else do they use the velodrome for?

When I read that it was earlier this year, I nearly asked what day this was on.
Looking forward to it.

Mountain biking.

A week earlier than last year, hopefully the weather will hold up. I can't wait. Not feeling that confident I'll repeat what I did last year, but then I didn't think I would do such a good ride then either so you never know.

Your unlucky I can't ride tricky, I could have made you look good. I'll be screaming at you from the side.

After considering entering the Great White Hope, I've decided that whilst I am white, I'm not great, and there's no hope. So I am going to Belgium for the weekend instead.

Not being funny, but if you have to ask you probably aren't good/experienced enough. Probably a year of track league and Open races.
The 'support' level races are about the standard of A cat track races.
Thanks, I asked because I'm at the level you described, but felt it wouldn't be enough.

IMO if you can handle a bike properly in the middle of a tight bunch coming up to the line in a slightly hairy devil, and you can hold your own fitness-wise in track league, you'll be fine. You probably won't win anything though.
Just for a laugh, last year's Good Friday meeting was my first track racing for over 20 years. (Recent experience being a season's worth of intermediate Saturday sessions.) It was a slight baptism of fire but I lasted more than half way through the B Devil and finished half way up the field for the scratch race. Bloody hard work but fun.

You're also about 70 years too old ;)

This!
They fired them up a couple of years ago, but it pissed down and the meet was canned.

@hillbilly What you done to your leg? Saw you at bottom of Denmark Hill on Tues eve, you on crutches about to cross the road, me muddy faced cyclist after training at RP

Hey fella, managed to fracture my hip back in December. Should be of the crutches the week after good Friday, fingers crossed. You did look a little muddy.

I dont think there is time in the program for these things. If you have the patience to watch them doing lap after lap after lap after lap of warmup, then 70 odd laps of racing then you're a better man than most.
It takes about 18 hours, the novelty of seeing pensioners in leather aprons standing up on decrepit, custom motorcycles lasts about 5 minutes and only ever happens once.

I hope you're disappointed then, because motor pacing is a fantastic discipline!

Chomp!
Sorry James, I knew someone would bite ;)

If they don't want them, do you think they would give one to me?
I'd take the silly platform off and put a proper saddle and bars back on, mind you. -
