  • Shamalamadingdong!

    Looks brilliant. Have you ridden it yet?

  • Not yet! Need to wait for a 9 speed cassette for the record wheelset before I use it. Can't wait though.

  • I liked the decals :(

  • Dibs the group set if you split.

  • They were a bit too loud for what I was going for. Thought it would be best to get rid of them. :P
    Dibs noted EEI. :)

  • I'm only saying that, because now you will feel void in your heart.
    You need to take your time when building up a bike or you'll get bored of it too quickly.

  • beautiful...

  • What a smasher!

  • amazing result
    have you shown this to Roberts yet???

  • You obviously look like you know what you are doing, so probably you've made it this way for a good reason, but shouldn't the outter cable of the rear brake below the seat post run on the non-drive side rather than the drive side as you've done it? Sorry if this has been said before, I mainly come on this thread for the pictures (and so far I enjoyed it a lot!!!) and may have missed possible comments on this...

    I understand what has been said about the brooks tape being "shoredich" and all, but having used it in the past (on a completely different bike though) it is really good, ages wonderfully, you can rewrap it almost as often as you need and, like vintage jeans, will look better and better... it will also shrink a bit, and should look less "fat" with time... Maybe I would prefer personnally different bar ends, white or chrome (or posh screw-on alloy ones) rather than the timber/cork ones: you should lose them during your first ride anyway!!

    Amazing build, it's good to see something like this! Well done!

    Loic

  • @ eightfivethree Not yet! I have messaged them though, no reply yet.

    @vello The rear outer cable housing has guides on the downtube, which strangely are more on the drive side than the non driveside. I tried threading it on the non driveside but it just didn't 'flow' right. It looks strange but I guess that's the way it was supposed to be, unless anyone else has any ideas.

    Yeah Brooks bar tape was for me, as I use it on my other bike and it's been super comfy and long lasting. I prefer different bar ends too, they are in the post ( Silver Hope Doctors).

    Thanks for the comments Loic.

  • Looks stunning! I agree with you about the silver rims rather than the black and I'd probably swap the hoods for white too.

  • This is gorgeous! ..is the same colour as mine. I was afraid to ride after Robert Elms's was stolen but his is a darker blue. Where do you plan to ride it? No I'm not stalking you..

  • @tel Yeah would have preferred silver rims, but had to compromise on that as I couldn't spend more money on the wheelset. Not sure about white hoods though, I think I will get rid of the black finishing tape, then leave it as it is.

    @titivulus I'm not riding it anywhere just yet! I need to let it all sink in before and getting over the fact that it's brand new. Once it gets a chip I think I'll ride it more!

  • I can ride it for you until it gets chipped if you like?

  • ..but shouldn't the outter cable of the rear brake below the seat post run on the non-drive side rather than the drive side as you've done it? ...

    I'm kicking myself for not thinking about this and mentioning it to you before the respray so you could get them moved.

    The cable guides are set up for brakes to enter on the right side. It's a bitch. You'd think you could run it under and around, but it's just too much of a bend. I guess something like deta's would have a better run.

    Anyway, it's not that important. It looks amazing.

    So good to see it with a proper paint job. Hope you enjoy riding it and if you ever sell it, give me a shout first.

  • Don't worry about it mate. I'm not really fussed either way. Had to order a new lockring though, there seems to be one specifically made for 9 speed hubs. Needed a lockring compatible with 9/10 speed hubs.

  • Pics in the SUN!

  • I think you need to get someone else to come round and photograph it for you ;)

    Having said that, it is testimony to the pornworthiness of the bike that it still looks amazing in these shots.

  • Lol, I'm a beginner photographer. Anything I could improve in the shots I've taken? Any pointers appreciated.

  • I am a barely competent amateur, but:

    • A more sympathetic background;
    • Less harsh lighting, from the side rather than behind preferably;
    • Reducing the exposure slightly in this shot I think;
    • Set up the bike so it is level in the shot; and at 90 degree angles to the background (here the wall seems to angle away from the bike).
    • Centring the bike in the middle of the shot.

    That kind of thing.

  • Any tips?

    Ask either EEI or photoben to do it...

    Sounds like the best option. I'm sure they will be more than happy if you let them ride around the block on it.

  • Fresh to this site a this is the first post I check out. Holy Cow what an excellent build. Congrats

  • @Mr Viking: I don't reckon Mr Lar's ridden it yet!
