  • Dammit, that was the 'Evans Woking RideIt!' It was a really nice ride actually. It was the first 'long' solo ride I'd done and was around 92 miles I think. IIRC I struggled on the few hills that there were, but that was because it was one of the first rides I'd done with gears. Let me dig out the .gpx for you.

You struggled on the hills with gears? But dont without?

  • You struggled on the hills with gears? But dont without?

Correct. I'd never ridden a geared bike until a few days before that ride and working out how to best use different gears in different scenarios took some getting used to. And FWIW, I prefer fixed climbing to geared climbing.

  • ^ fail. the roads directly above the will part would have spelt it much better.

  • Are people mainly using the app? Or running a Garmin or other GPS?

  • Garmin for bike and running

  • I use a mix of everything, the app wins for picking up satellites and uploading quickly!

  • Garmin for bike and running

Mind me asking you which model (or models) you are using?

  • I use a Forerunner 910xt for both running and riding. Really get on with it.

  • edge 810 and forerunner 620 because I am obviously a serious professional athlete that needs the best.

  • We all need our gadgets.

I went out on yesterdays run wearing a HRM belt, my Garmin 910xt GPS/altometer watch, bluetooth headphones, a nathan water belt with nuun enhanced water and my smartphone in it, compression shorts and t-shirt, technical running socks, in-vogue bare-foot running shoes, and various winter layers.

Getting ready felt like a scene from commando.

  • that's a lot of kit for a 5k.

  • To be fair. The face camo paint probably wasnt really needed.

  • "Get to da choppah!...But keep HR in Zone 3 yeah"

  • You know when I said I rode that segment fast, I lied.

  • *- Conan! What is best in life?

    • To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to steal their KOMs.*
  • edge 810 and forerunner 620 because I am obviously a serious professional athlete that needs the best.

Most pros use 500. 810 is screaming to the world "I'm a MAMIL looping Richmond Park and I'm gonna look at this data when I get home! Love me!" :)

  • how dare you I've never once ridden a lap of richmond park.

  • or regents

  • Well I'm no pro..but having directions for some routes might be useful..and I I do love a good gadget!

  • or box hill

  • or swains

  • I did once almost get a third of the way up ditchling though
