As the multiple ride mapper tool at http://www.jonathanokeeffe.com/strava/map.php is down due to some kind of Strava API wizardry, does anyone know of anything similar that still works?

Keen to give this a try.

Just tried the new routing function, http://www.strava.com/routes/1324 is the result- from a quick look it's not sent me down the motorway, would anyone suggest some refinements to that?

It'a bit weird around Dorking. Are you purposefully seeking out Leith Hill? You could head south to Newdigate, then across to Capel, Ockley and back to Forest Green without going over the highest hill in the south east.
I'd also hang a left in West Meon and nip down to Warnford, then head up Wheely Down and into Winchester that way. You'd be on the A272 for a bit, but it's downhill and much less contrived than heading up to Alresford and in that way.

You don't need Strava to know that. -

Thanks for that Andy, the Leith Hill bit was Strava's auto-routing function, I am assuming that it's based on "the majority of cyclists go this way, so that's what we'll suggest".
The contrived part into Winchester was me- that's a really pretty route in, which I like doing.
I'll change the route around Dorking and repost it- I'd like to do this ride very soon.

Edited it.

The route builder seems very good to me. If it plays nice with my Garmin I think I'll not be bothering with RideWithGPS anymore.

Really liking the "Min Elevation" button and the whole thing looks pretty cool, as it's using the most popular routes, so should be good.

I have a Strava account and the app but rarely use it and have logged into Strava within the past month or so. I recorded a ride during my holiday and went to look at it on Strava, and it does exist as an activity on my phone but when I go to log into Strava it says there is no athlete matching my e-mail. Anyone know if they had a great clean and swept out the infrequent users, or is their system down?

Looking for some routing advice: Does anyone know of a way that I can input a route into a program, which then syncs up with a GPS enabled smart phone that gives turn by turn directions into headphones?
Don't want to shell out for a Garmin and don't want to mount my iPhone to the handlebars.

Strava is being crap on my brothers' phone only recording 0.1 or 0.4 of a mile when he starts. The other day it thought he was miles away from where he actually was, my phone recorded the ride with very little issues. He's tried reinstalling it but nothing changed.
Is there a similar app he could use on his phone?

you sure he's not just hiding the start/end ? When I look at my rides I can see exactly where I started, but if someone else does it looks like I started a few blocks away

I'm finding the Wahoo fitness app to be very good.

I think he's got the area around the house hidden, but these rides are 20mi long.

I think it only records when it has a decent GPS lock, which often means that if you start without it, it won't pick up for the whole ride. Is he on Android? If so D/L GPS Status from the Play store and update the aGPS info

Yeah he's on android. I've told him to make sure it has GPS before he starts or to pull it out of his pocket occasionally and check for GPS. This is what I do with mine and it seems to work.
The strange thing is that it used to work fine but only recently has it been playing up. Not sure if an update isn't agreeing with his phone -

i really like the look of this, the device looks way nicer than the garmin 500 and the screen much simpler and clearer,
however id still be worried about battery life

I'd be interested to see if you could work out a way to make it show turn info - can't see how that would be any harder than other info from the iPhone ?
Sort of, I think broadly it correlates with affluence and Strava take up, rather than amount of bike riding activity per se. Although I reject your crude Essex stereotyping, obviously!
It also shows if you want to go to Richmond Park on a Saturday morning when it's quiet, you really need to go before 6am and definitely before 7am.
