Strava cyclist in SF who killed a pedestrian spared jail
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-23428326Three years of probation and 1,000 hours of community service seems an easy ride so to speak. Obviously we don't know the exact circumstances of the case, but the fact remains that the rider ran over and consequently killed a guy.
He'd probably have got less if he used his car....

he was a dick and deserves jail. He even posted in a forum after the event and seemed more upset that his helmet was trashed than the old guy he killed

They have a shop now, I think this is new?

They've always had a shop, from which to buy t-shirts and premium subscriptions and other bits and pieces. I'm not really sure why they're claiming it's new. Maybe as an excuse as to why they haven't fixed all the other shit?

Strava hi-vis to make sure everyone knows to get out of your cunting way. Smart move.

I have a paid subscription, but I'd rather wear Daisy Duke Denim shorts on a century ride than the Strava bibs.

What do you get for subscribing? Is it just a method to keep up income so that the app can keep up with the times?

"I used to carry my phone in a ziplock bag to protect it on long rides. It was comical to see someone that spent thousands on a bike and kit to pull out a ziplock bag to buy a cup of coffee. The Jersey Bin changed this overnight. Finally I could roll into my favorite coffee shop with the right kit, bike and phone case. I recommend buying a bundle as they arenβt the most durable and last about 3 months before needing to be replaced."

Not a great deal, basically some analytical stuff.
However, it's $5/month, and I use it just enough to warrant that expenditure.

Β£3.49 here. I actually like the fact that you can still use the phone screen through it.

which also works with sandwich bags

I've been using the same zip-lock bag for 8 years. It has a hole in the bottom so the zip is locked and it's folded over. Best 0p ever spent.

I use the ones that the audax people keep giving me with my brevet cards

Currently hating Strava.
I did a big ride yesterday to finish Rapha Rising including Corny Fell in each direction, Hardknott and Wrynose passes in both directions and a ride up to Wasdale head to make sure I had enough ascent. (Nearly 90 miles and well over 10,000 ft of ascent.)
Strava decided it's not going to Sync/Upload and all the help suggests (after checking phone settings) is to log out and back in again. I've done that and..... The ride is no longer there.
Fuck Strava.
It's appeared! It seems to have uploaded on Monday and appeared in my feed today.
I'm much happier (although Strava seems to have underestimated my ascent.)

I managed to get some KOMs yesterday, but although they show up on the relevant segments, they don't show up on my list of KOMs. None of them are ties, either. Any idea why they don't show up?

Not sure why Strava/garmin has got my elevation figures looking so odd.
http://app.strava.com/activities/70421984
I did a round trip but ended 100ft below where I started, and in other places the elevation seems to drop suddenly rather than being smooth. What am i doing wrong?
Garmin has it too: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/350346647

Yep. I think it's still confused as to how I got to Africa and back in 35 minutes while doing only 5.5mph

That's the exact location that a device of mine defaults to when it loses GPS function. It's quite a coincidence that you actually went there, chapeaux.

Strava has just decided that my biggest climb of all time is a whopping 3m on a pointless segment in Oxford city centre. Well done strava. Yes 3m is a bigger climb than any of the climbs I did in the Surrey hills today.

This is absolutely fascinating:
http://app.strava.com/saturday-heatmap#0|16|8|51.60512|0.09269It's the Satuday of the Dunwich Dynamo 'heatmapped' by Strava. For some reason the slider starts at 12am Sunday morning but as you move it across you'll see Saturday daytime then the Saturday evening of the Dynamo.
The Dynamo looks like a streak of lightning crossing East Anglia!
It's particularly interesting because it confirms what I've always suspected: Surrey seems to be full of Strava-ing cyclists whereas Essex looks positively underutilised by comparison. There is far far more 'white heat' south of the river, particularly south west of London...

Isn't that just showing that the denizens of Essex are engaged in a bit of dogging in the back of their Rav-4 en-route to the vejazzle salon, whilst the Surrey Mamils are grinding around on their Madones?
Not condoning his behaviour, but...
