Looking for some routing advice: Does anyone know of a way that I can input a route into a program, which then syncs up with a GPS enabled smart phone that gives turn by turn directions into headphones?
Don't want to shell out for a Garmin and don't want to mount my iPhone to the handlebars.
ridewithgps.com + OsmAnd on Android.

There is also Track Navigator on Android, I haven't used it yet but it seems good for navigation from a gpx file

i've just had a KOM pinched by a rider who had been cycling at the track then driven home taking out a few KOMs at over 30mph before they got on the M25. I flagged the ride and instantly got the KOM back - but what does flagging a ride actually do? Will the rider have lost all there data from the velodrome before they got in the car? It also seems open to abuse, what's to stop someone flagging all the rides just a bit quicker than them?

I can imagine a queue where manual flags are combined with automatic thresholds...
i.e. on a certain grade uphill, even Chris Hoy's legs couldn't sustain 40mph for more than x seconds => epic flag of doom

If you are flagged, you can dispute.

Well I hope they haven't lost their data. I'm glad they can dispute if needed.

I had a recent ride flagged when strava though I'd gone to africa. It gives you the option to delete or crop your ride

Has anyone with Premium successfully gotten a TCX or GPX file from Strava onto a Garmin Edge 800? Completely baffled as to why it's not having it when I'm using probably the most popular model of Garmin and I'm following the specific instructions for it.
Mac issue maybe? Ridewithgps TCX files work just fine.

Yes I haz made this work ^
At which point are you getting stuck?

When I either a) download a TCX/GPX file from an activity, or b) create a route with the new route planner tool, and export it to TCX/GPX, I get a file downloaded to the computer. I copy that file onto the Garmin - in the Garmin / NewFiles folder. I disconnect the Garmin and restart it - no new route on the Garmin.
If I do the same with a TCX file from RidewithGPS, it appears as a route just fine.
I've tried editing the filenames to remove anything that might be problematic (spaces, punctuation etc) and it doesn't make a difference. Don't know if it's a Mac thing, or something to do with Strava's formatting of the XML.

I have an Android app called "SMS Popup" which does that. It doesn't play too great with TouchWiz on the S3 but I absolutely need one of its optional features. It'll keep buzzing until you acknowledge the SMS - very handy when you're on call and get text alerts for things being wrong. I think iOS just does that by default?
Anyway, android thread >>>>

Make it private is another option they offer (which is what I did when someone complained that I'd taken the KOM on part of the Cable St superhighway).

Funnily enough I did just notice that of the 4 gpx files I uploaded (2 at a time) only the latter one of each batch has appeared on the device. To be honest though - I've had that problem on and off for the last 3 years regardless of with site I've used!
I just tried one of the problematic routes again (on it's own) and it worked first time. I didn't do anything funky with the file or name, just dragged and dropped it to New Files. I do have the latest Firmware though..
I assume you are already doing them one at a time?

I've tried multiple files and single files - I haven't had any of them work yet. Are you using a Mac or a PC?
I might try a firmware update.

I wonder if it's possible to write something that randomly flags everything? Spread across enough accounts and with enough variability. Hmm

You want to hack strava?
I'd have thought when you are a national champ getting a few KOMs was the least of your concerns.

Anybody got a way of converting a strava route onto a garmin-compatible file bar the below link (which doesn't work anymore)? The only other option seems to be going Premium

Is Instagram sync broken for everyone?
-
• #2475
Instagram sync doesn't work if your instagram account is private. The images aren't accesible via the API, unless you've shared them elsewhere (FB, Twitter etc).
yeah i found it off they mention nothing of that which would be a major competitive feature
