  • They would have "done a Sparky" and stitched a bunch of raw files together in a text editor by hand to produce a single monster journey that they could upload to Strava manually.

    Eh?!

  • Thought that was how you did it?! You've mentioned doing things that way a couple of times if you couldn't log a whole ride as one journey, IIRC.

Unless I've confused you with somebody totally different, obvs.

No, you're right, I have done it. You've got a better memory than I have...

It's not hard to stitch multiple files together, just a little fiddly.

  • **Privacy Zone.

Maybe I'm slow but just noticed this feature. Worth setting up, then you can start/end at your house.

  • Repped. Although if 3 or more of my segments finish on the border of that circle, it's hardly a challenge to work out where the centre point is...

  • Shhh!

  • basic trig!

  • However if you live in a block of flats then no worry!
Still just start it down the road really. The zone is a bit smaller than it should be too.

Edit: If you put in a full address it makes a bigger circle. Also you can add multiples to enlarge the circle too.

  • You can set the zone diameter to whatever you like, no?

  • Apparently not any more...

But you can overlay privacy zones and make it much harder to triangulate.

  • We've all seen this, right?

Export Strava routes to tcx / gpx to load into your Garmins and other GPS doodads.

  • Tried it, Garmin looked at it and couldn't read it.

  • The eported tcx that is.

  • managed to get a couple of my good segments* back after my privacy zone awesomeness cull.

James Freeman - I'm coming for you!

*pissy 400m sprints that probably no-one else cares about

  • My ride over Waterloo Bridge this morning didn't register as a segment. Any idea why?

  • The racing scene is tough out there in the mornings and evenings. Especially on "Kennington Road" and "Brixton Road" race circuits. Some people risk their lives. I have even witnessed a crash in a bunch sprint for Loughborough Road Junction traffic lights a few weeks ago. Those Kudos must mean so much to some people. I must train harder!

Na, it's all about Brixton Hill I heard... http://app.strava.com/rides/17534083#321060007

  • Didn't realise there was a BH to SH segment, fucked if the lights are red.
And that BH segment is 50meters long!

You can export gpx files from within Strava (on the ride page).

  • Lame that I can't export segments as gpx though. I want to load them into OsmAnd for turn by turn naviagtion. Good for longer segments (TT style stuff) out in the country.

  • You can plot it in Garmin Connect and load it on.

  • Yeah, bikeroutetoaster too, it's just a shame to have to replot it.

  • After using Strava for a fortnight now, I'm pretty sure some people are cheating and doing it in their car.

  • You can report those "rides", check the performance tab for moments of unrealistic speed, like 50mph up a hill..

  • I just weighed one of my bikes, Dammit-style, so I could get a power output calculation for a journey. The box where you add the weight says lbs, so I put in 51 for 23kg*. Got an error message back saying that the max bike weight you can add is 50kg. Genius.

*this made me feel a lot less like Dammit

  • You'll have to add some beer gut to the person weight.

Or just sort your bike out.
