4 years of prototype testing has proven that the 14R is tough.
you aint seen my testing

It's more than likely that I won't :)
Sorry

^yeah the 14R is definitely an option. Sumo mentioned Steve Goff to me the other day but apparently he can take his sweet time building a frame (I've heard 8 months is not out of the ordinary). Does anyone have an email address for him anyway though?
8 months sound about right for a custom frame, the average tend to be 6 months.
I think you've gotta write or phone, that kinda put me off asking to be honest, don't want to waste so much of his time for a quote.
Framebuilders would be out of business if they think you're wasting their time when giving you a quote, how else are you going decided what you want from a bicycle.

4 years of transporting good along the hipster spice route? that's a pretty good task.

Hahahaha hahaha
Says someone who is helping to push a standard lugged track frame with a sparkle paint job and some restrap graphics.
Unless I'm missing something that is yet to be revealed.
If you had a 14R, it would last you a lot longer than all of the other frames you have broken.
A heavy Leader like drawn by you solely from an aesthetic point of view, with how many 853 tubes? And what chance of getting what you actually order? And in what time frame?
Good to see you back to your petulant responses anyway Andy.

The 14R isn't a fashion accessory, it's just non-traditional. It does at least have an interesting concept behind it which is more than can be said for a shedload of similar looking frames.
-
• #28833
To be quite honest, I'm hard pressed to see why it's not a fashion accessories, but there's no reason why that's a bad thing, like those low pro Geekhouse for example.

The 14R is boss.
I rode Andy's briefly and it was freaking awesome. Light, responsive and comfortable. If I could afford one, I'd have it in a flash. -

@dgoods Have you had any luck getting in touch with colossi? I've tried emailing in the past and never got a response. I was under the impression they didn't do one off customs unless its for a shop.
@Bonor I probably have no real need of bb30 but if it doesn't cost extra then why not (had bb30 on my roadie and it was pretty neat)
@Tm I totally forgotten about Ted! I'll see if I can get a quote off him, I'm sure he could build me something pretty mental. I'll give woodrup a shout too, they were even my Lbs at one point.
@scobletron That's 8 months build time alone, not including waiting for your spot. Is that really the norm?
@Andyp Im really digging your shop 14 953 frame, is there a particular reason it's so much more expensive than the 14r? I was quoted 850 for the same frame in Zona!
Thanks for all the good suggestions folks

6 months I feel is the norms, my Oak took 11 month from meeting up to discuss the bicycle to finally ready to be sent to Bespoked Bristol.
I must point out it's a custom bicycle, it's only worthwhile if you're 85% sure of what you want exactly, the remanding 15% come from a few tweak in the design after 2-3 months of waiting and talking to the framebuilder (which in itself is a blessing - had it been only 6 months, the bike would look different and have no internal dynamo routing, wrap around seatstay and connector-less hubs).
Lastly, it's a custom, waiting 8 months for says an OTP frame would be insanity.

Don't forget Talbot Framework, Sven Cycles and Demon Framework too, they're both like Oak, are recent addition to the list of growing British framebuilder, some framebuilder are cheaper than other due to lack of experience, my Oak was one example which turn out brilliant in the end despite the huge risk.
BB30 may be more of a hassle as it have a very tight tolerated, Dammit was about to have it on his custom bicycle but in the long term, the old external BB is a better option.

You could wait a few months and come along to the Yorkshire Bicycle Show, check out a stack of frame builders, ask some questions and make your decision then? Anyway...

It depends what you want. I spoke to a friend who helped him with bespoke and he said it's like any frame builder, depends on lugs, tubing, track gears etc... it's in the region of £1500-2500 though as far as i'm aware. Year and a half waiting list at the minute.

Pea but that Textima is perfect.. well, except the bar angle and whatever is going on with that seat post. An all time favorite for sure.
Just bought one of those huge rings last week and I'm glad I did. -

953 is stainless, and harder to build, not in the same league as Zona.
I know 953 is harder to build, I was trying to find out why the same frame in Zona is still £850 whereas the 14R is £700ish in 853 (even if it's not full 853 that's still better than full Zona). The 953 frame would be £1500. Anyway I'll stop hijacking this thread now, I've got lots of options to consider. Thanks again for all the responses folks, much obliged.

What Ed said and that the silver solder used to make a 953 frame costs around £200 on it's own.
The 14R is a frame set aimed at the MASH / Kagero price bracket. It should be around £1200+ but then our target market would not be able to afford a frame like this.
We will make a TIG Welded columbus 14R with a 33mm seat tube (no wheel cut out) and simplified drop outs, which will be cheaper. Also a Reynolds 953 Stainless Steel 14R, a bit pricier.

Custom geometry?

Custom geometry?
Of course, no 14 bike co frame is made in bulk. ;)
Nothing is wrong with lugged track frames?! But I'd take a steel Reynolds 853 fillet brazed track frame (with Royce drop outs and custom sizing/geometry) over most lugged track frames any day!!!
I'm not a big fan of sparkle paint jobs, I was when I got my 3Rensho in 2007 though.
