  • Goddamn it, I was sure I put it on the big ring before putting it up, thank for reminding me.

  • The looks are growing on me, at least they are aero.

  • What's the power and modulation like on those?

  • so. many. pivot. points

  • Looking really good.

Any reports on the brakes yet, or are you waiting until the weekend?

  • my bet is they will stop him in a reasonable manner

  • Not ridden the bike yet, finishing off putting it together, ride report as soon as I have done so.

  • forget riding the bike, that plywood panel behind the stovetop will be accumulating food vapours and grease - either pva and plaster it or put a stainless splashback over the top, and pronto!

  • Batteries are heavy. I've got ~150g to play with though.

  • Take off the bottle cages. Drinking is for fatties.

  • SRAM Force:
    Shifters 306g
    Front Mech 83g
    Rear Mech 174g
    Total 563g

    Di2
    Shifters 260g
    Front Mech 122g
    Rear Mech 221g
    Battery 70g
    Total 673g

    So 110g in it.

  • Take off the bottle cages. Drinking is for fatties.

  • Now you won't be able to add 1kg of water to the bike.

  • ~1kg of water:

  • Your bike is now too fat for this thread >>>>>>

  • Very public spirited of you.

    I weighed my bike- 6.65kg.

If I changed the stem that everyone else hates that'd drop it to 6.6kg.

Now- how much heavier than Force shifters+mechs would Di2 shifters/mechs/battery be?

If you dont go leccy. Go Kevlar. Steel cables are soooo fecking heavy.

  • I have iLink mini shift- I think too small for PowerCordz?

EDIT PowerCordz with EE Cycleworks brakes might be fun to set up. Or extremely easy. Who knows?

You can get thinner liners IIRC. Setting up brakes with PowerCords requires a wrap around the sinch bolt + a little knot. Once I worked out to use clamps to hold the pads against the rim, so I could use both hands. It was'nt too bad.

Adjust barrel adjusters to 'closet to rim',
    Back off a turn,
    Clamp brakes,
Feed cord through hole and loosly clamp,
loop around nut and tie a knot,
Loosen sinch nut and tighten knot, then tighten sinch nut, and
Back off barrel adjust for rim clearance.

Should leave enough adjust for pad wear. My cables havent stretched a mm, and the braking feel very solid (have not tried the same calipers with wire though).

    Go on.
    Go for it!

  • Weight difference between Kevlar cords and steel cables is?

  • Enough for you to obsessed over it.

  • Is that why I don't know what the difference is Ed? I think you may need to reconsider the premises you have based your statement on.

You don't have a photo of the comparison?

  • Weight difference between Kevlar cords and steel cables is?

    Weight is

    PBO – 1.56 g/cm3
    Steel – 7.8 g/cm3

So depending on your length of run and if you do both brake and gears you could see about 40 to 60 grams saving overall.

And Ed .. I did my gears (they're not compatible with my brake setup) because they don't stretch due to being a lot stronger then steel cables 270GPa vs 200GPa tensile modulus I believe I have seen quoted, the weight saving is an added bonus .. as Smallfurry also commented in the past.

  • Ok, I am almost sold on this idea. Oswald- do you know if they can work with mini iLinks, or would I need to replace those with standard diameter iLinks?

  • Moved these posts from the Bike/Frame weight since it's getting OT and you already have a WW thread here.
