  • Sign of the devil!

  • This bike is serious

  • Nice.

  • It looks fantastic and well setup (to my eyes).

I want to see it photographed en route to epic climbs and amazing adventures from now on. No more photos of bits. Ride it plz.

    :)

  • Ok, I am almost sold on this idea. Oswald- do you know if they can work with mini iLinks, or would I need to replace those with standard diameter iLinks?

Powercordz claim they don't work - see WW thread. The thread also shows what a PITA they are to fit - I think Smallfurry will back that thought up! And I have to say I'm using regular ILinks with a liner for my setup, as mini ILinks weren't available when I bought them and I haven't so I can't offer an opposing view to Powercordz. Sorry.

  • This bike is satanic

    ftfy

2nd that .. apart from that stem lol ..

  • The stems staying, if for no other reason than I could get a Di2 battery in there.

I'll get some powercordz for the brakes, see how that goes.

  • You know dammit, although the stem looks like a sexual torture instrument it does kinda go with the bulky front end

  • i totally agree, the stem matches the front section very well.

  • If you're going to Di2 and want to hide the battery you'd be better off hiding it in the seatpost. I'm not that clued up on the wires but it seems like the seatpost battery would require wiring similar to the existing wiring. Placing the battery at the opposite end of the bike would surely complicate this. It's also easier to remove the seatpost than the bars to charge it.

If you got one of these and swapped out the bolts for some ti ones you could save around 75g for not alot of money. My Giant has a fairly bulky looking front end (not as bulky as the Cannondale) and I find the smaller stem to be more visually appealing than the Giant Contact SLR stem I had on there previously.

  • can't argue with 75g savings...

  • there was that review on WW someone did of Di2 and he fitted the battery inside seatpost. Looked really neat.
I'm not sure how they manage to get the cable through the holes in the frame without a guide inside though.

  • I have two seatposts that I use, and I swap between them a lot- one for the turbo/clamping in the workstand which is original to the bike, and the one pictured.

I don't change stems, hence my thinking that the battery could go in there- plus it's massive so plenty of room. This is a strictly a thought experiment though, I want to see the new SRAM Red before making any plans.

  • ..not super EPS?

    *disappointed

  • I wouldn't want to be putting extra weight in the stem. You are less likely to feel it if it's in the seatpost.

  • Battery is only ~70g, that's less than a Garmin 705. I don't think it's going to upset the balance of the bike too badly.

RG- no, no Campag for me, too much invested in Shimano/Sram wheels.

  • I did not realise it was so little

  • Yeah- I think we associate battery with "big box of lead and acid", the Di2 battery is essentially an RC car battery. Very small and light once you cut the casing off.

  • I once cut the ends of a RC battery to fit a charger it wasn't meant to fit. It set on fire. True story.

  • I have complete confident in your new electronic ultegra groupset sumo, seriously.

  • I know your stem is massive but is it really big enough to fit a battery inside. With the seatpost you can just reorientate them as shown in the second picture, however this clearly wouldn't fit in a stem. But having seen Di2 I'm not sure if the batteries and the plastic connector piece in the first picture would fit either. Then you have the problem of get the wires to enter the stem.

These two builds document internal Di2 (here and here). And the Fairwheel Titus Di2 build shows a microchip built into the stem (here).

  • Bugger, looks like I won't be having hidden batteries if I get Di2. ISP ftl

  • You may want to check the brakes are ok with Di2 if you're thinking seriously about it .. I know Shimano Dura Ace has a different lever rate to almost every other STI - Zero Gravity offer a special cam for their brakes to suit, I don't know about EE.

there must be a way of doing it with an ISP. There better be anyway as that's what I plan on doing.
