  • How do I tell if the pads on my bb5 (also bb7) are worn out?

I thought it was when they stopped working, but the pads look almost as fat as the new ones, far from what I'd call worn! But they don't grip at all...

  • shit/grease on the disc can make them stop working well.

  • Yeah, sounds like there is life left in them but there is another reason they ain't working.

  • Cool, that's what I was wondering, will give me a sanding a and see if that helps

  • Don't forget to clean the rotor too.

  • will give me a sanding a and see if that helps

    Sounds painfull/perverse

  • I've got a hope pro II rear hub with qr fixtures. Any recommendations for converting this to bolts? I've had issues with the nuts slipping before and also not sure which conversion kit is the right one.
    Cheers LPC.

be careful, the pro 2 and the pro 2 evo have different internals

this is the pro 2 one http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/hope-pro-2-conversion-kit-rear-10mm-bolt-in/rp-prod11825

  • Yeah cheers, did read that also. Doing it tonight with that kit so fingers crossed.

    Cheers!

  • Axel fits. I can't get the free hub back on which apparently is impossible without the 'Hope free hub seal tool'.
The free hub needs to twist and snap in and the tool sit on the seal (44mm dia).

Has anyone managed to get the freehub back on without the tool?

  • I think you need the tool (i've always used it), but I don't see why you can't just put a block of wood over the end of the freehub body and give it a knock.

  • Even with the tool my LBS managed to get it wrong... :|

  • Ah shit. I don't think you can just whack it in as I think it needs a twist as it seats.
    Fuuuu.

    Thanks tho.

How did they get it wrong?!

  • Washer issue... When I take my feet off the pedals as I'm freewheeling my cranks think they iz a fixie, bruv...

    The bike still works... Meh...

  • I need a new BB. Any suggestions? External.

  • Whatever is cheap, they're throw away parts. Is it HTII?

  • yeah.

  • BB51 are £10 on CRC.

  • Sold. Think they're the ones I've got on there already, so that'll be fine.

  • Yeah man.

  • Ah shit. I don't think you can just whack it in as I think it needs a twist as it seats.
    Fuuuu.

    Thanks tho.

How did they get it wrong?!

I just pushed it back in no problem?

  • Directly on the seal?
Several people tried just pushing the freehub in which didn't work.
    I've ordered the tool...

  • I can't see how the tool would make it twist as it seats, it's just a turned piece of steel. Hammer.

  • Now I'm sober I've found a Hope video in which they just push it on, no twist. You'd probably want to get it on evenly though.

The tool should be here soon. Meh.

  • Getting the free hub body back on? You just need to hold down the pawls, and twist/push it in. Or do you mean something else.

  • The seal needs seating.
See 5:20 ^ else the freehub body isn't secured (you don't need to hold the pawls down).
