James is the guy who runs 56a, nice chap. A few ex and current polo players used to volunteer there Stan, Lish and Tom. I might be down there too tomorrow to use their wheel truing stand.

• #503
Did I hear someone say slacker's polo?

E - If it doesn't work out I'm working from home Thursday/Friday, sounds like you're sorted though

Anyone know of an external bb crankset with a low q factor. I've seen Sram X5 but wondered if anyone had experience.
I currently have 175 alivio, 103bb, time pedals and still get pedal strike.
-
• #506
Get 165 cranks?
-
• #507
Thanks captain obvious. However I want the stiffness of ex bb and torque of long cranks.
-
• #508
how about a higher BB? thought of getting a custom frame?
or smaller feet? -
• #509
Slightly bigger tyres?
-
• #510
Profiles BMX cranks? http://www.profileracing.com/estore/browse.php?perPage=0&tag=bmx-cranks
Nothing on Q factor listed on their site, drop them an email?
-
• #511
I'd guess bigger if BMX.
-
• #512
You can adjust the Q factor by changing the spindle...

To a point, mine would need different chain stays to go any thinner as the cranks are quite wide at the bottom compared to MTB ones, even on a 120 spaced frame you'd be struggling to lose more than a few mm.
-
• #514
We are not talking about you are we? ;) It's just a suggestion since Fin asked, I personally don't know if it will or will not work.
-
• #515
torque of long cranks.
Change the gear to compensate for the crank length difference.
Go find what Sheldon says about Gain ratios.
Or don't as it's not a big enough difference to worry about.
-
• #516
I reckon no.
-
• #517
I went back to normal square taper cranks cuz I couldn't get on with the insane Q-factor on GXP/Truvativ cranks...
This might sound daft but how about some road cranks? External BB and much lower Q than MTB/etc, no?
-
• #519
Power meter cranks, for proper statistical analysis of your game.
-
• #520
I think he's on a Marino with 26" wheels, 135 rear axle and 1.35 Duranos... Not sure road cranks would clear the stays and the chainline would be shit.
-
• #521
We could call it the PowerTapOutâ„¢ system...
calls patent office -
• #522
Half that patent is mine.
-
• #523
My lawyer will argue very strongly against that statement...
-
• #524
My mum will argue very strongly back, with my cat as a surprise witness.
-
• #525
Shit, ruined the surprise.
Thanks guys! Might try 56a as it is near newt and means I can do it in the daytime.
Chan, I have a velvet fork.
N3il, I am going to hold onto the frame for a while, but will probably sell it before the year is out.
