  • good scheme - I understand that although the rules are tight, they sometimes make exceptions for "keepers of the flame"

  • anyone for the training ride this weekend? thinking saturday if the weather forecast is OK...

I fancy it, is Sunday an option?

  • the weather won't improve I'm afraid, maybe better to not go this weekend but next?

  • great, sounds good to me, I shoud have my new 14/28 freewheel then, I'm using normal road ratio on tubulars at the moment
did around 90km in your lovely Dutch rain the other day )

  • So I got a garmin 800, mainly for training and general stuff, but I want to get the leroica route on it

There's really no need for GPS - the whole route is permently sign-posted (BIG metal signs - like for Alton Towers or other tourist destinations), supplimented on the day.

But good lights are worthwhile - I only took Knogs last time which were a bit useless at 6:30 - I'm taking my 100-ish watt Electron this year for the 5am start, and hiding it under the stem.

I maybe jumping the boat a bit, but how about celebrating "our" Tour success? Woollen "Sky" yellow jerseys...? Where would I get one made?

  • hehe! i like your optimism graeme!

alex at woolistic is the best i know of

  • right, I'm well on this thread now as my other half has bailed on me to do a mountain medicine course in the Atlas. I'm therefore left without vehicular support and cheaper rooming.

What's the plan guys and gals? I'm thinking of camping and hiring an estate. Anyone else up for that?

  • i don't drive so haven't organised transport yet (or booked flights) but i've sorted a hotel in gaoile - i wouldn't recommend camping but sleeping in an estate is a valid option

  • What's wrong with camping tilover?

I've not booked my lights either but am happy driving in Italy, is the route if ulnar or linear I can't recall...

  • I booked my flight + small car, with BA for about £165.... My plan is to camp near/next to the car.....does anyone recall if there is a fire station in the village? I usually hunt them down for some international fraternity type cheapness.....I don't know how small the car is, but I'm sure I can squeeze another person in the passenger seat? My bike box is a big bugger though, so yours must be smallish.....we could tie the boot open with string, I should imagine :0)
Thanks for the sign info.....I just didn't want to get lost. 205km is enough, without putting more in!

  • Please can anyone help me with a link or how to access the list of entrants for this years L'eroica ?
I am going and taking my 2 sons and want to make sure our entries are listed
    Thanks for any help
    Lance

  • They've just put a new website up, but only in Italian at the minute......

  • Just secured our hideout for the weekend, very happy with this :)

  • looks lovely peter! so you're hosting the lfgss bbq then?
    ;)

  • Ha! A byo bbq might certainly be an option... not on Saturduy though. Some good wines to be had there too (although I'm more of a beer boy)

  • Thanks graham
    Excellent

  • Tires

Okay, got to get some tires. Currently got 20mm tires but reckon it'd be bit foolhardy to tackle gravel roads with them (despite finding them very comfortable) Do you think I'd be best off changing to 23mm or 25mm?

  • 25

  • I've still not booked anything :/

  • i've run 20,23, and now 25 this year - it doesn't make much difference but every little helps

(i booked my flights this week - yaaay)

  • i used 23 no probs vresdestain and swalbe stelvio i I think, one of each as that is what i have on the bike. i guess that it depends a bit on your weight and how do you ride your bike. I was never sitting when going down

  • I'm pretty light. (69kg) Would that imply I need smaller or bigger tires?

  • i think that if you are lighter there are less punctures

  • I've still not booked anything :/

me too .... thinking of pulling out if anyone is looking for a place ?

sad but my work comes first :(
