  • blag a ride with me horse to Paris

and got a train to Saumur, Loire Region, for L'Anjou Vintage ride

the whip was in good company

    and so was I

    I did the 101 km,
I got 4 fucking punctures, one when I ate gravel coming round a bend,
the support at this event is ace, motorcycle outriders at the rescue, with a mechanic on the back for on spot repairs,
limped for 20 k as the fd got kippered in the fall, the motorcycle heroes put it reasonably straight to finish at a decent pace,
the French riders are Gentlemen and Woman, great people, and to top it all off, got the pleasure of meeting one of our own, the ever youthful, Tonyme ,( geezer!, ), see you at Oudenaarde Tony?

  • ^^^^^^^^Looks great

Quick question, what's the done thing regarding shorts? The seem a little harder to track down than vintage Jerseys. Do most people generally wear regular ones or get vintage ones over there?

  • There are stalls selling tonnes of vintage and replica vintage clothes - I got some (new) vintage shorts there for 40 EUR last year. Also plenty of jerseys, so I wouldn't waste too much time or money trying to hunt them on ebay!

  • looking good saarf! see you at Oudenaarde

  • /\
you going mate? good to see you there

  • looking good saarf! see you at Oudenaarde

So how many will be going to Retro Ronde? I hear the beer festival is rather epic.

    saturday only, or sunday too?

  • just back from my LBS, rear freewheel is not good, so no show for me (

  • could bring something else, but is circa '92 , still has down tube shifters
I'll keep schtum if you do

  • sure :-)

  • saturday only, or sunday too?

Sadly only Saturday as I have plans for Sunday already in another part of Belgium.

  • anyone for the training ride this weekend? thinking saturday if the weather forecast is OK...

  • So I got a garmin 800, mainly for training and general stuff, but I want to get the leroica route on it......any gurus give me an idiots guide? Do I need a new sd card, as the one I have has the 1:50k OS maps on it, and I don't want to overwrite it?

Also, what do people generally do for lighting? I have a set of lights that have a headband.....is that ok, or do I need something 'period'?

  • think you need a period garmin too - compass and sextant should do the trick, lights have to be paraffin - the only exception is Wonderlights

  • stadlocks, I'm no guru but it's not rocket science, hook up the Garmin to your computer, get the GPX file from the Eroica website and put it in the.... (drumroll) ....gpx folder

Thanks.....I've never used one before though, and don't want to mess anything up!
I've tried reading the various blogs, but it doesn't help when I'm a fucktard with gadgets!

I'll tie a candle to my head too, for the ride!
