@tapsnbath and I have nearly finished our holdsworths... some final bits and pieces to do adjusting brakes/bar tape etc. but both pretty stoked today!
nice to be taking a bit of London history over there with us and really looking forward to the ride and the market!
will get some better photos once we are properly done.

The other half is coming with me but not doing the ride. Anyone know if she can rent a bike in Gaiole for the week so the two of us can get out and see some of the countryside?

hmmm, it's definitely not easy! we tried the first year and were laughed out of the registration tent but we ended up being leant bikes by a lovely local bike collector - could be worth an ask, or she may be able to buy one in the market? could easy get something for 2-300 euros and you can sell it when you come back to the uk (probably for a profit)

If she's not doing the ride than I guess she can rent a non-heroic bike? I used these people a couple of years back in Umbria
http://www.rentalbikeitaly.com
They have locations all over Italy, so I guess there will be a shop near Sienna, give them a try. The bikes are all new and pretty nice spec and they do road and MTB.

Cool. Cheers guys. She's not doing the ride so a new bike would be grand.
Is it just me or is anyone else starting to get insanely excited???

Does anyone know what the plan is for the ride, and the Saturday before the ride? Assuming there is a plan, I am currently living in Northern Italy so I wouldn't be suprised if there was no plan. I have heard mention of a party and a jumble the day before, but can't find anything on the web to confirm or deny such rumours. Wondering what time I should plan to arrive Saturday.

it's generally a festival in gaoile and the market is on for 3 or 4 days on the weekend, the ride itself is open from 5.30am every 15 minutes up until 10.30 - you choose which start to take and you just turn up at the top of the street and queue with a coffee and join the next mass start - it you are doing the full 205km then i would certainly reccomend starting at 5.30. you will need another layer because it's freezing and lights because it's pitch black though
the night before they put on a carbo loading party in the big food marquee but it's not really worth bothering with, we usually have the 'l'eroica' menu at the cafe in the square and get to bed early. on race day there is a big tent for a free feed after the ride too
our group this year (just 4 of us) are arriving on friday afternoon and staying right in the town, the market will be set up by then and pretty much stays open while it's daylight.
hope that helps!

I'm absolutely stoked right now!
My training has been going really well too.....I've shifted 2stone during training, and am up to the mileage comfortably......but I don't want to tempt fate!
The hetchins is sorted, I have 25mm panaracer paselas fitted that look good, and some old school flint catchers, that arrived yesterday. I still feel that I want some kind of barbag though, to save me carrying a musette or something...li don't want to do that. I've got to try to fix the cage to my bars as well..... And get the bottle that fits! -
• #337
Also getting super excited!
Stedlocks - where did you get your bar mounted bottle cage from? I'd love to procure one for my Holdsworth as I don't have any braze ons for a cage and am terrified of marking the paint work on the frame if I used a clamp.

Am trying to get 3 bikes finished in time... Mercian, Koga Miyata, and a Gazelle...
Running out of time... Eek..
Might have to resort to chucking the bikes at a Mechanic..

What tyres are you all fitting for the Strada Bianci?
-
• #340
i'm running 25c grandbois blues but honestly if you pay attention you can ride any tyres, carrying luggage however is a little sketchy on the loose gravel - if you don't have to don't bother i'm going from my carradice nelson i had last year back to my rapha musette for snacks, windstopper and tools

Have lovely 20mm tires on at the moment but realise I probably have to go wider. For some reason I'm having trouble clicking 'buy' on the heavy/poorly rolling 23mm schwalbe lugano's.
I'm thinking there might be better 23s or 25s out there.

I'll be on Wolber 290's they seem to be made of pretty stern stuff, and wider than most tubs too - what sort of pressures do people run?
Stedlocks - glad to hear your prep's going well; I've got a small barbag - Karrimor Bardet from the early 80's your welcome to use. It's made from the green silvagard nylon stuff so it looks fairly modern, I can PM a photo if you're interested

Finally started on my Gazelle. Time is getting short... Dura Ace 1st generation is going to be the groupset of choice again, although certain Gazelle fans have been trying to steer me towards the Campagnolo path. The Benotto bartape over white cotton tape looks (glows?) & feels (a bit thicker) good imho.

Rick, the barbag sounds excellent! I haven't forgotten the other bits, Chris had a bereavement ( mother in law aged 103!), and has had some time off......I don't want to bother him just now.....
Taps and bath, I might have a spare....just a random ebay purchase, but he had a few NOS ones complete with clamp....not proper old, but passable. The clamps didn't fit, so I ended up using black cloth bar tape to trial fit on another bike.....it works well, but it sits high, not dangling down like the originals....
This is the only picture I have of it at the moment...
3weeks today!

Stedlocks, that would be great! It doesn't matter if it's not properly old and it looks very smart on the photograph. :)

Stedlocks
Found the barbag at the weekend I'll photograph it tonight and PM you.
No worries on the headset timescale; I'm busy enough building my L'Eroica bike, still not got it on the road, but not far off now...
I'll only allow myself to start getting exited once I've got the bike up an running and the panic is over!!! -

@tapsnbath - The one I have sounds similar to stedlocks'...
it's made by Oxford (part ref OF563) and you can get them on ebay and amazon. -

^ Perfect! I have just had a quick look and Chain Reaction Cycles have them for £4.99 so I will order one. Thanks for the info!
Is this list up-to-date, or the original one with several names missing? Some from Cambridge are not on it and a bit worried, we are both on the list but were there from the start.
