thanksAll of the above, and not you, clearly.
Seriously, every session sold out in about 3 minutes flat, I wouldn't hold out much hope if I were you.

Wasn't too hot tonight..certainly not 28 degrees as rumoured!
Take plenty of cash if you fancy a beer or a bag of crisps though! -

Great evening. Not too much of a faff getting in, but a total faff getting out, 6000 people descending on busses at once, great plan.
The velodrome is amazing though, the atmosphere when the GB teams were going was amazing. Glad I managed to get a look in at a least one session of cycling, either now or at the olympics.
Oh and nice to meet you kingfisher, hope your drinking shots came out well!

I think it's worth knowing that you can't walk anywhere if you leave the velodrome. It's buses, and only buses. There's no hot food, but sandwiches and other shit. I strongly urge you to be prepared for a wait at the end of the evening.

Well that was fucken brilliant. The velodrome is stunning, atmosphere great for GB team. Almost saw a women's world record. Really intense for GB and Aus mens heats. And my £10 last minute tickets turned out to be right at the front directly by the finish line! Awesome
As Harold says the bus only access is a shambles, I cycled to Stratford and locked u p there but the shuttle bus added over 30 minutes to my getting home. Triffic evening though and love the velodrome.

went past the venue last night on my way home
chatted to a few of the security staff
2 options shuttle bus from somewhere near stratford station / bus station outside the main exit to deepest darkest stratford the other to the west of westfield between the shopping mall and the olympic swimming pool, ticket office and shutttle buses just by the pool
seemed not too busy on the way in but i think mostly they were stragglers at that time of night
sounds like bring a good book for the end is a sage bit of advise -

It was amazing - I'm sure the Fri/Sat/Sun guys will have a great time as the events program becomes even more exciting. The venue is ace, the site itself still look like a building site but once you are off the bus the velodrome is stunning.
I had track side seats, but i reckon the view from anywhere is great and you could walk around and get close to the action for a bit even if you were sat right at the back.
Following on from my tip tip 1, be prepared to queue a) on the way in b) for any refreshments (although i took my own in) c) on the way out (It took me about an hour to reach the station at the end of the night)
I'd say it was quite warm, My chocolate was melting by the end of the night (Take minstrels, or mini eggs as the shells wont melt) You will be quite comfortable in a t shirt - but take something warmer for the queue in/out.
Nice to meet you too Harold - I've got a couple of photos of you. I'll edit my shots tonight and load a link here over the weekend.
Hope those going over the rest of the weekend enjoy it as much as i did.

I'd echo what others have said about last night's qualifiers.
There were a couple of glitches with the timers, adding about a minute onto the NZ women's team time and again on one of the men's teams. And Spain being disqualified for bad bike position was baffling - surely the person checking the bike on the jig should have piped up before the heat started? But an amazing venue - 6,000 screaming at the GB team was quite a noise, and the temperature was absolutely fine.
Yes, the crawling queue for the shuttle bus afterwards was a bind, but I had company (admittedly Australians) and it was then a doddle to get on the Jumbly Line back to SE London.
What's this business about twitter? A steady stream of mindless inanities appearing on the big screens between heats and the commentator telling us about the tweets that he'd seen. I suppose it's a step on (technologically if in no other way) from a banner saying "Hi Mum!".
The GB men's team were superb, but having knocked 8 seconds off the previous best, it then made the last five teams look lacklustre when in fact they were stormingly good. Interesting that the women were much closer to WR times than the men. Anyone any idea why this might have been the case? Was there something special about the 3.53 occasion?

As above - fantastic evening! The venue is great - really intimate. Had excellent seat a couple of rows back from the track opposite the finish line. Brilliant atmosphere for the GB teams particularly - great they both made the top 2.
Getting in was slow when I got there - bit of a queue for security, then again for the buses, then the bus trip. 30-40 mins all in.
Queues for the beer / sandwiches also long.Watched the final heat by the exit door, so was able to beat the rush back to the buses.
There seems to be shitloads to do in the park as a whole to get it finished and it doesn't look like it'll be a nice place to stroll around taking in the atmosphere. Looks like Gatwick at the moment.

+1 to the twitter inanities. Does not add to the occasion.
After the Canadian women, I thought we'd be up for getting close to WR times too. Maybe more to come in the finals...

The womens team pursuit is a relatively new event and the world record is regularly broken as teams become better at pacing and technique.
The current mens pursuit world record was set in the final at the Beijing Olympics, so yes there was something special about it. It'll probably get broken again this year, but I doubt it'll be at this World Cup as neither Australia or GB are at peak form yet.

Aha, yes, the novelty of the event hadn't occurred to me as the explanation.
