  • @Pony Are your pics on Flickr to view somewhere? That shot is awesome.

  • Thanks for the kind words.
That shot is the best of the bunch - I'm no expert but here's the set:

  • Some youtubes collected and embedded halfway down this page http://fixie-king.dk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2052&start=12340

  • How can urinals be too low? You've never pissed on the ground before?
too low if the piss splashes onto you shoes.. it's a geometry / projectory thing :)

  • You need longer schlong or more piss power.

I suggest you buy Lance Armstrong's book "It's not about the Balls".

  • @almac68 - my one gripe was about the loos too. Guess it's those of us who spec this sort of thing that notice....
The faucets stayed on WAY too long, I had finished drying my hands and they were still running! Such a waste of water, and you couldn't even pull them up to turn off.

  • But the racing was good...........

  • and you had a pretty good view!!

  • Yessir! It was ace.

    Good to see you mate

  • I met Patrick Lawino briefly at the Cycling Club Hackney AGM two weeks before the World Cup. Nice guy, and we'll see more of what he can do once Keir Apperley of CCH will have been coaching him for a while. (Keir made the link with Uganda and has now been there a couple of times.)

  • they should knock down that velodrome and start again and get the toilets right this time

    complete farce / shambles

Just out of interest, what are Keir's credentials?

  • I don't know what his credentials are (I assume a full coaching licence?), but he's coached some pretty good young riders in CCH, including the forum's own Tao Geoghegan-Hart, now with the Olympic Development Programme:

Other riders are Clem Berrill and Rhys Howells, now with Orbea:

Alex Peters is also now with a new outfit (pro or semi-pro, I think), but I can't remember which one.

These have come through in just a few years since CCH was founded in late 2007. Keir may of course have been spectacularly lucky with the level of young riders who joined the club, but he must have been doing something very right somewhere. I am told that there's every indication that more good riders are coming through--they have a couple of dozen kids participating regularly, I think, with great youth coaches.

  • Crikey! that bottom lip must create a bit of drag.

Doesn't seem to hurt Tony Martin:

  • I don't know what his credentials are (I assume a full coaching licence?)

He has indeed. level 3 IIRC

As for coaches who've coached riders that have gone on to "better" things, In some cases, it's usually more a reflection on the rider than the coach IME. A good young rider with a few outside influences, such as BC talent team etc, won't suddenly be made a bad rider by thier club coach if he/she isn't up to standard. It's a club coach's role to encourage and facilitate participation at all levels rather that "train" individual riders.

For example, I know of some currently very successful GB riders who in the past have been coached by people with poor knowledge of exercise physiology and training principle. It's in spite of, rather than because of, this coaching that they went on to achieve so much.

As I say though, that's in some, not all, cases. YMMV

  • faucets

  • ^^ Keir got BC Coach of the Year in 2009 I think

  • the only slight criticism i have of the venue is..the urinals are too low.. michael hopkins must have designed them for toddlers.. piss poor imho lol.. but the layout of the building is fab and the materials , finishes and detailing superb.. the continous thoroughfare circuit/track at public entrance level was the best bit for me and sightlines throughout are pretty good.

Best urinals I've ever used were some ones in a victorian bank, very decorative, trough in the floor but behind 2ft high decorative (hand detailed) brass splash backs. Felt sorry for the cleaner that not only had to clean the splash backs but they also had to brasso them.
