  • So what had blocked the stove? was it the rotating plate in the flue or something else? bit confused :S

flue blockage.. technically plate between flue and stove was choca. now i know.

  • I was hoping you'd post all nine puppies. :)

  • that wouldn't be fair, I just wanted to post the ones that need home. The tan one, is (post 582) is the tiniest / runt and she's absolutely adorable.. yesterday at feeding time she got a chicken thigh and was holding on to it against all her siblings.

Ah, I see, it sounded as if all nine were in need of a new home:

on another note.. despite their best efforts the Hippy and his partner have puppies. Their lurcher bitch Lino has given birth to nine healthy strapping and stunning puppies. NINE. I've been to see them and can confirm they are being well treated, well fed and socialised. They're in a clean environment and are on a diet of mother's milk and raw meat currently. They're 7 weeks and will be needing their forever homes shortly.. if you are looking for a large or meduim large addition to your household and are interested please let me know. I've put picutures below... beware they're adorable.

The father is a black lab cross and the mother is a lurcher so make no mistake these are not small dogs. I know both parents and can attest that both are very mild mannered , cat friendly and intelligent.

  • So Jacqui, are you a "Go Leafs Go" girl ?

90 Miles from Wiarton, hmmn, Barrie ?

    I am Semi Cdn.

Love your writing. All the best.

  • @col surely all CDNs are a bit Go Leafs Go (at least when their winning). :)

I do have a soft spot for the hip tho...

  • 23 March.
    My first Floatilla..

Julian is turning 50 this weekend. I met him when I was getting work done in Enflied, he's the man who painted my hatch. He's a boat painter, as you might imagine, Julian's boat is amazing. The paintwork is immaculate, of course, but more than that, Julian is a man of refined tastes. He was the architect of his boat's design and as such it has vintage steamliner brass windows.. they are stunning.

    I have severe boat envy.

Anyhow, for his 50th we have all been invited to take part in a flotilla party. Basically, its the boating equivilant to a pub crawl and on Sunday I'm joining them to putter along in a long line of narrowboats to various locations and partake in a moving party... I AM SO EXCITED.
I'm also more than a little aprehensive... everyone is better at driving their boats than I am and the thought of possibly making a total ass of myself is a bit scary. Nonetheless, I am determined to partake.
    Fingers crossed.

  • those puppies are amazing. Wish I had space for one.

Lurcher/lab cross would be such a lovely dog.

  • sadly, all the ones posted are still looking for their forever homes... I'm pretty worried for them :(

  • At least its not a long way to the canal for them if they don't find a "forever home".

  • ^Oof.

Just catching up on the stories, Jaqui - I'm loving 'the one that got away!'

Keep up the good work, and hope you enjoy that flotilla!

We seriously investigated this but unfortunately our landlord and the managing agent of the property we lived in said no to large dogs.

Ah I see, that happens to ours every now and then, burning evergreen wood (free forestry offcuts!) tars the flue up in record time. After a while you can break it off like peanut brittle, but it stinks and stains everything it touchs, yuk.

    That collie/lurcher pup is sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet

We've often ended up with the runt/reject/least likely to succeed pets and without fail they've thrived and been such loving, characterful and feisty assets to the family!

  • It's flotilla day!! and, an elderly couple that the Norwegien knows is interested in one of the puppies, they are coming today to have a look. Today seems it's going to be full of win.. fingers crossed.

  • Have awesome fun! Post some pics. X

  • 24 March. A Smashing Experience - Picketts Lock

    Every job has perks.
One of the perks of the Norwegian's job is that occasionally he comes back from work with a crate of heavy glasses, usually Hoegarten.
He distributes these to all the boaters in the area.
I am not a fan of these, unless I am at the pub and they come filled appropriately.
When I refused them, he insisted.
    *They're practical, they don't break easy. *
*I have glasses, mine are fine. *
He shrugged and continued to hand them out.

Yesterday the Norwegian took his elderly co-worker out for a cruise.
    They went north.

There's something magical about locks, no matter where you are people always seem to gather and watch when you're going through.
So when they came to Pickett's Lock the Norwegian left his counterpart on the deck and began the process of winding the locks. It was all going smoothy. I can only imagine how his visitor felt watching the Norwegien cofidently jumping across from roof to lock and back effortlessly.
He left his guest incharge and moved the paddles to allow the water in, but it rushed in furiously and tossed the 9 tons of boat mercilessly. The boat tossed and turned and smashed into the sides of the lock. In an effort to calm the flow the Norwegien quickly closed one paddle. The other was stuck, and he was left to watch his panicing friend below.

That evening after explaining the days events he produced a crate of broken glass. The fury of Pickett's lock had ejected the contents of his kitchen cupboards and smashed the six glasses, 3 plates and 1 bowl.

None of my Hoegarten glasses broke he smiles.

  • RE: Puppies, will they post to Manchester?

  • @rhb - the puppies may all have homes.. fingers crossed. Weirdly the first pic i posted, the brindle - seems to be the one who is last to find a home, I was surprised given its usually the black ones that are hardest to find homes for.
still I'm happy that it may be sorted.

    ^ racist.
