Either get a ply / wood front that can cover between floor and first shelf, or like you say, hide it behind the tv
Or maybe cut the back out of a nice vintage ply / wine box and place it under the bottom shelf

Fire surround is lovely.

That’s a good shout, thanks. I don’t really want to fill under that bottom shelf with a box as I like how the shelves kind of float, but creating a hidden section at the back could work nicely.

Could you make a shallower depth, skirting height box, and front it with the same profile as the skirting, so that you basically have a fake front skirting board 6inches further forward than the wall so it visually diappears, but still does the same thing?

Thanks, we love it. The colour of the tiling inside I’m not crazy about though and was thinking might replace one day with something that gives a bit more contrast.

Yeah, this is what I’m now thinking

Oooh Christmassy! I feel cosy just looking at that room.
I like the skirting idea too. Little magnetic catches either end that hold it to the side bits of skirting so you can pop it on and off but it stays vertical and neat.

If you're going to keep that lamp there and the TV in that position then I think having everything stored behind the tv makes sense, or replace that cable with a black/green one. The phone line on the rh side I would look to create a little box on the right of the lowest shelf between the wall for that to sit in and potentially wrap the black wire in something white.

Its also a lot of plugs in extension (not sure if that causes any kind of hazard as Im not spark)
-

Ha, I think the plug under my TV has 18 things plugged into it

Bloody hell lads what with all the plugs!

You should see my edit! 12 things plugged in behind my desk

I got as far as ‘passionless font’.
100% drivel. Unless it’s top-rung satire and I’m not clever enough to spot it.

I thought this thread was meta satire.

^all the long list shown in the Grand Designs HotY programme in Channel 4 (online now) - just in case folks had missed it.
Felt like every episode I managed to guess at least one shortlisted project based on me liking it the least..! I understand the principle/idea behind The Red House, and loved in the interior, but still can’t quite get past that shade of green on the outside.

How big is it? Couldn’t see from a quick scan.
We put shelving up in the first of our two alcoves yesterday and will do the other at the weekend. One thing I’d like to sort is the inevitable cable nest at the floor and wondered if anyone could suggest a good way of hiding it. Wall mount the extension board behind the tv maybe? Though I was considering putting that on a wall bracket to free up a shelf.
