some photos of the Getty centre in LA, i absolutely loved this building, walked around it for ages.

  • Also my uni (Ravensbourne) building in north greenwich aint half bad... http://instagram.com/p/Yijz9gkSD1/

public consultation and site access ends sunday if you want to have a close up look at how the rich will live in the near future. just don't tell em that it'll all be flooded by 2030.. btw we are working on phase 1 site..

  • I need references again, thanks.
my assignment is to make a small visitors centre in a sculpturepark in the middle of nowhere. the place is rather fascinating. great nature and a very brutal concrete museum in the corner.
I want to see the museum as part of the area sort of when you visit old caste ruins etc.
I want my little house to be understated, humble, unpretentious and designed to facilitate experiencing the great views in the area rather than to offer an experience itself.
What I need is ideas and references that will help me find my take on the solution.
you know like big window panes, framed views, mirrors, transparent, light construction, half buried, elevated, hardly touching the grass and so forth.

  • Alvar Alto ... next question ...

    http://www.greatbuildings.com/buildings/Saynatsalo_Town_Hall.html

On of the things I like about that specific building is the way the verticals in the windows echo the woods around

  • the site:

the building is pretty awesome actually.
all constructed from 12 to 15 cm thick concrete walls up to 11 meters tall. holding up a concrete roof construction than spans 23 meters.

  • oh. and thanks for the link, branwen. lovely use of brickwork too!

  • No worries - hope it didn't sound too facetious, all I know about Architecture I know from my historian dad, but Alto sprang to mind immediately.

As cool as the mirror looks, I think personally a building that is itself, but is sensitive to its environment would be nicer.

  • For those interested one of my projects has been shortlisted for the NLA - Don’t Move, Improve! awards, going to exhibited at the NLA from the 5th Dec 'n all.

  • nice! congrats.

  • Very good, I like the perspective in the last shot too.

  • yeah very nice, almost looks surreal on the last one. Love the different feel when you compare inside and outside as well

  • Like a slice of life.

  • I always get inspired when I read about projects like this, then I remember who I married...

  • Both by Alex Chinneck. Upside-down house is at 20 Blackfriars Road, though curiously the door's righted itself.

  • FYI

Florian Beigel will be holding a Lecture at UEL tomorrow evening a 6pm. It's an open lecture and all are welcome.

  • Love Florian Beigel's work, unfortunately work gets in the way of attending lectures these days.

  • Luckily (kind of) I'm still at uni so it's par for the course. Last week we had Edward Williams which was quite interesting and a few weeks before that it was Stephen Hodder.

It's a decent lecture series this season at UEL.

  • A taster of the lecture.......

It was by far the best lecture in the series so far. We need more like this.

The Arch Soc film and publish the lecture's on FaceTube, the problem is the time between lecture and publish is quite long at the moment! I'll post it here when it's online.

This is the new interior 'city' of Central House at London Metropolitan University for Architecture and visual arts.

  • ^ Imagine if they built one of those at Vauxhall Cross! Oh wait...

  • I'm struggling to think of a Christmas gift for my 31 yr old architect brother.

It can't be too bulky and needs to get past Australia's super strict customs (no edibles, natural fibres etc.). Help!
