Witherford Watson Mann win the Stirling prize, a deserved accolade for a great practice, but I would have liked to have seen Niall McLaughlin win. Bishop Edward King Chapel is utterly stunning in every detail.

This shed would be ideal for those base jumpers as it is above a 7,000ft drop in the Alps at Morgins, Switzerland. The building was built to house the operator of a chairlift in the Portes du Soleil resort in and with unabated views across the stunning mountain ranges, there are worse places to call your office. I've found out we're converting the garage at my family house.
One of the issues I pointed out to my mother is that there is a step from the main house out to the garage. The way she plans to do the work is to take the wall between the kitchen/diner and the garage down, which would mean the step runs the whole way along. This would take up quite a bit of space.
Can anyone think or show an example of where something similar has been done nicely or a creative way to reduce the footprint of the step?
edit: It is a single step of about 1-1.5 feet currently.

In a crummy corner of a crummy shopping mall in my hometown of Redditch, lies a collection of absolutely beautiful Eduardo Paolozzi mosaics. They used to terrify me growing up, all industry and thrusting futurism. There are better pics but I love this one as it really puts them in context, i.e. daytime shoppers getting their filter coffees after picking up their giros

^^^ Was there a few weeks back, a weird kind loneliness pervades the area even though it is being revived by new businesses and condos in addition to being used as originally designed.
Or maybe it was just my state of mind at the time. -

Truly wonderful, thanks.
Tend to agree with Elfinsafety on the fit for purpose argument brought up by so much of London's estate architecture.
I think the real tragedy though is that refurbishment almost invariably remains the best option for tenants, given the often negligent schemes for redevelopment undertaken by local councils in concert with private developers.
