Any RICS members on here? I'm doing my "professional experience route" to membership at the moment. Probably got for my APC next summer.
I've also been dropped in the deep end with my first big civil construction project after ten years of quite niche railway specific engineering. It's interesting but a daunting learning curve. Just wondered if ther ewere any other QS' on here?
We should have that pint. I'm doing the professional route next year

This should be in classifieds but it's probably a bit specialist so i'll stick it in here.
I've got 3 or possibly 4 of these eames DCM chairs in natural ash, not black as in the pic, that i'm going to stick on flea-bay and gumtree.
http://www.nest.co.uk/product/vitra-dcm-eames-plywood-chair
http://www.conranshop.co.uk/589802/EAMES-DCM-CHAIR-BLACK-ASH/ProductThey are pretty much brand new, they've never been used, just in storage for about 3 years. They are fully legit vitra editions with the vitra stickers etc. In my opinion they are probably the best looking chair in the eames catalogue - even if partly due to the fact they aren't ripped off by all and sundry like the poly shell ones.
Anyway, they are 595 each on any site you can find and will have a wait of about a month or 2 for delivery. If anyone is interested i'm looking for 300 each or will do a deal on 4 if you want em. Just thought this might be a place they may find some admirers.
And as a contribution to the thread:

Interesting bit of thought and a nice little project.

I'm now the proud owner of nice little piece of land in rural Mallorca that I managed to get very cheap. No water or electricity or planning permission. It's got about 50 almond trees planted and about the same number of olive trees.
My dream is to get a nice little prefab built, ideally one that's not fixed as that would allow me to get away without planing permissions.
So many nice prefabs these days, spending too much time on here lately.

This month's Architects' Journal describes the building as transformed from a "humble bicycle workshop".

Anyone else venture out look at anything during Open House today?
I arrived at Battersea Power Station just as they decided no-one else could see it (at 13:30), so we headed upriver to the Foster Partners studio instead. It was great, from a complete architectural layperson point of view, to have a glimpse into the studio that has produced some hugely iconic buildings (and made some amazing scale models of said buildings), and to have a bit of a talk by one of their structural engineers about the company's operation and procedures.
Biggest disappointment of the day was finding out that a plastic bottle recycling plant in Dagenham was giving tours, only to find out shortly after that we would have had to have booked in advance.

Preston Bus Station has been given Grade II listed status, great news.

Yes! This was the best thing about visiting my sister when she was up there for uni. There was a greasy spoon with an absolutely untouched interior that was a proper timewarp.

I only hope it gets looked after. It could be as wonderful as the Barbican but last time i was in that part of the world it didn't look very loved.
Anyway - Hooray for architecture that makes you feel like you've stumbled onto the set of Logan's Run.

And it won't go the way this did:
it was never finished, and never maintained but it was stil interesting, unlike the cheap flat pack supermarket they put up in its place.
