I always get a route that's 3x the distance needed to cover! It takes you around the block, and around again!
-
• #3028
Yeah, that's not my idea of "minimize distance". It basically makes it pointless.

Route creation is difficult, especially for cyclists. We were planning on using Strava data, even though we have a massive amount of routing knowledge and data, purely because their data is cycling specific.

Yeah, I checked and that was the setup I had before I'd changed it to use Automobile. Interesting to read in your link
"You can also use a different “cut” of the OSM maps that you download yourself (see here for a guide on how to get them) should you need an area not covered by the included map, you have issues with it or would rather a map that didn’t include cyclepaths (in which case select Generic Routable as the map type)."

I guess I'm not quite a typical cyclist though - I often choose to bash down busy-as-fuck A roads whereas most people seem to prefer the lanes. Now, if I could get "almost" direct routes but using the lanes I'd probably jump at it. The Garmin routing just doesn't seem to cut it. I guess I could try slamming in a self-made OSM map that doesn't have cycle paths and that might work a bit better for me.

Does anyone have any info on GPS accuracy? I'm thinking of replacing my forerunner 305 with a fenix 3.

Garmin connect doesn't want to transfer my ride to Strava today. Bluetooth uploaded and showing in the Garmin connect app, accounts are linked.
Manual upload the only way? -

That it does not find cadence or speed sensor. Who cares.

But the maps. Wailing.

The map is not recognized in a card reader as well.

• #3044
Is your GPS screwed? Is the map on an SD card? Do you have a copy of the map/card?
You could backup the device/card and then try formatting if you think the copy is ok. You can also download the base files required for an 800/810 and then put your own stuff back in manually.

The 705 is working.
-
• #3046
The Sd card seems to be broken.
To get a new card I just copy the 705 map card onto a spare card?
-
• #3047
And in Debenham yesterday I relied on the newsagents directions as postcode navi seems not to be working without the maps?
-
• #3048
The card work on 705 but not 800? Did you move the card from 705 to the 800?
-
• #3049
The card in the 705 still work. Another card that is in the 800 not working anymore.

Using the 800 was fine following the course with no maps. But then when wanted to ride somewhere from Debenham there was no postcode or address navigation. Ridiculous you only have that with maps.
OSM maps seemed to contribute to more lockups/crashes on the 810 so I use Garmin maps. I will try Garmin maps on the Edge 1000 to see if they also give shit routing options.
