Got a Garmin Fenix 2 and I have now used it for run, bike and swim. I have all sorts of metrics like avg gct, vert osc, estimated vo2 Max and swolf and no idea what to do with them. Uploading directly to my phone over Bluetooth is nice though.

Intriguing - thanks.
I can't seem to search for anything - I click "addresses" and then get a "enter state/province" prompt I can't get beyond whatever I type.

What map do you have, please be specific.
IIRC this can be an issue if the time zone file is corrupt.
The fix is to delete the . Garmin\gmaptz.img file and do a web update to rebuild it.

Fair point - wasn't being particularly helpful.
I have these:
Edge DEM Map EU 2014.20
Garmin Cycle Map EU 2014.30
INTL Standard Basemap, NRBasically everything that came with it, and anything else Garmin Express has told me is available to install.

This map "Garmin Cycle Map EU 2014.30" is routable and searchable therefore I would look at doing a timezone file update as previously noted.

How well do 910XTs pair with WattBikes?
[edit] pretty well, apparently

Navigating with a 500 is fun.
It likes to prompt you to turn at or after the turn, not before! -
• #2035
yeah, if you are navigating with a 500 then you need to be on the course page so you can see how far until the turn

I've never owned a cadence sensor hence the mildly silly question but provided you have a sensor, does it mean that your Garmin would use that as the primary basis of speed measurement (rather than GPS) and would it therefore continue operating in tunnels etc (locations with no GPS signal)?

yes

You can set the turn warning to xx meters before in gpsies or ridewithgps premium.

My garmin has apparently deleted a ride. How does that even happen?
Also it loves routing through non-roads. -

File gets corrupted, neither the device or a pc can read it.

Look at your settings with regard to routing.

Garmin 800 had a hilarious hissy fit mid-ride today. Started spitting out the names of 'segments' then did what I can only assume is a kernel panic screen - 'unexpected shut-down' with what looked like a debug trace - then turned itself off.
The whole showing segments on the map display is complete crap, too.

The whole showing segments on the map display is complete crap, too.
In what way?
-
• #2045
In that you can't read the map, now.

Another reason not to use garmin connect.

Mmm. I'm sure their product managers are all drunk.
Or cats.
Or both.

does a garmin mount need to be horizontal leveled ?

People are riding with the garmin installed on the seattube (close to vertical).

My garmin no longer seems to know when I'm going up hill. Just shows 0.0 at point one today midway up a nice climb it was showing -4. Any ideas if this can be reset?
OSM does not support post code search but please note if you have OSM active on your device and also have one of the maps previously listed you can still do a post code search even though the other maps are not active.
Like so.
I have never found the need to do a post code search, you can either use the address function, map point function or send the address as a waypoint to the device as a gpx file.
A bit of a kludge but do a post code search in google earth . make a placemark, export as kml use gps vizualizer to convert to gpx, send to device. It will be added as a "location".
