  • Distance is not the limiting factor as such but the amount of track points/waypoints the file contains.

  • I'm not sure about the 1 workout with several 'do course'. Gpx tracks should load easily past the 200 miles mark, with @freezing77 liability release.

  • I have used a gpx track to do a 270 mile course, not all at once i may add. Tcx files I have found tend to get a bit iffy on longer rides and occasionally they have been truncated hence my belief they have reached a point limit.
Here is info from the garmin site ref the etrex series, unfortunately I cannot find the same data for the edge series.

    eTrex 20/30 limitations

    2,000 GPX files
    2,000 waypoints
    5,000 geocaches
200 routes, 250 points per route
    200 saved tracks
    2,000 archive tracks
    10,000 points per track
    100 custom map tiles
    250 BirdsEye Imagery files
    Approximately 3,000 mapping segments

  • ah ok, I was using tcx at the weekend for a 75 mile route and it was constantly trying to draw the line to follow, which meant It was useless.

I'll have to look into what the differnces are between gpx and tcx

  • Bummer - The tcx I've created has been thru ridewithgps and behaved well while on the road.

  • Anyone got a spare garmin? Need to send my 1000 back for replacement.

  • Anyone got a 500/510 for sales? Need something!

  • Why is this bastard GSC10 saying 150mph at 30 rpm? Magnets are as far apart as possible, have pressed reset a bunch of times.

  • Riggt, drunk.

Can someone please reitterate how to get OSM maps on a Garmin? I've done it before but perhaps not as slammed. I need maps of the Azores on an etrex vista hcx. Err.. how?

  • Please note that the map file must be called gmapsupp.img this is how it will extract from the zip file from here.

Unlike the edge series and the later etrex series only one map can be active on the etrex hcx series.

  • I did a 100 mile course on a 200, i reckon you'll be fine.

  • Cheers! I eventually found the map generator I needed but the download kept failing. Got it this morning so I'll try and load it tonight. Not sure if I should take the etrex now or the 800..

  • tried to UTFS but how do you revert the firmware?

the course function is totally fucked on my 500 and never draws a line to follow

or what file type/planner do I use to get cue alerts for turns? fucking Garmin

  • How long for? I'd need it back by next weekend.

  • Thanks, but got one lined up now. Appreciate the offer.

  • which maps do I need to be using to set a destination as a post code?

  • I also need to know this. I swear on my edge touring I could post code search at one time, but can't anymore. I just get the "enter province" or whatever it is thing which is useless.

  • HELP!

Spent the entire weekend cycling to Paris and back, and my fucking 705 seems to have borked all the data.

    • Both days I stopped and saved each ride by pressing lap, no problems at all.
    • Plugging into computer, it starts 'saving history' then turns off at 23%. This repeats infinitely as long as it's plugged in.
    • If I cancel while saving history, it goes into storage mode and I can copy the history folder across, then it 'error -36' messages and ejects itself again. I've managed to get a folder off, but have no idea if it's complete
    • TCX Convertor doesn't seem to have done anything with the .dat files I managed to get off, it still won't load to GC or Strava

Any help to rescue this data would be greatly appreciated, because it was fucking far to ride and I'd quite like to have some proof I did it! If you're a whizz and can help, please shout and I'll owe you beer/baked goods/high 5s/play-date with my cat

Also this para may be relevant.
Solution: In my case the clm.nvm file had grown – not sure of the timeframe. In my case it was up to 450MB. There was only 1.2MB or so of free space on my 705 unit, which I concluded was causing the hiccups with transferring .dat files to .tcx.

  • Thanks, I read over this earlier. Unfortunately I don't have access to a PC

  • Also, the unit doesn't stay connected for quite long enough to do anything other than quickly drag a file off, before it suddenly ejects itself. Even if I've cancelled the saving history bit, it still disconnects from my Mac and turns itself off.

  • Hmm, my edge touring runs of OSM maps, so I assume it can't work then if it needs those specific maps. I swear it did once though...
