  • YOu can turn that setting off in settings!
I think i remember reading so.

Edit your question was something else. N/M

  • What setting? I'm talking about external power supplies working with the 800.

  • Yeah ignore me.

  • The right angle will take it really close to the microSD slot no? Think the best orientation to get is 'Up' from Greenbank's post. Let us know if it works.

  • The power/usb is on the left of the microusb so it should come out into free space, along the bar.

  • Tested th new Fenix II- much better than the old one, seems like I got a duffer the first time round.

  • Just to carify, pressing the start/stop button and turning it off will pause the ride, right? ignoring the 'save/discard' screen that baffle me first time round.

  • Good to know, was trying to figure out how, old Garmin was a little more straightforward.

  • Though turning it off with a route loaded can cause it to shit its brains. Not always but that's normally when something went wrong. So I'd stop the course sometime to be safe. Or just pause it and then lock the screen.

  • Start the timer and ride on roads you know. Then change to course to find the cafe. Garmin will keep clocking the miles but then only save the ride until the course was started.

  • Left doesn't work either - the case gets in the way before enough of the connector actually connects. It might work but it'd be too loose to be reliable.

Plan B.. find an 'Up' adapter.

  • Anyone know how to turn off the segments feature on the 810? There are a couple of places where it screams at me to "GO" and I'd really rather it doesn't...

if you stop the segment halfway through the unit loses its shit and turns itself off.

  • So the one I bought didn't work. That'll teach me for buying before reading.
Any idea where I can find an UP version of the right angle?

  • Battery life on a 500. What are we realistically talking?

Can't decide if I use a etrex for navigation and 500 for data.
Or just use 1000 for all and charge it more.

  • Navigation or only show&tell?

  • Doesnt the 500 give around 18 hours?

The 1000 has a decent battery. But the big Bright screen means battery life changes loads depending on how much you play With it.

Seems easier to just use the 1000. You could carry a small portable battery the size of the Etrex instead no?

  • Show and tell. Navigate on etrex if I had 500.

Maybe gps on but also happy to gps off for battery life. Just more to see data.

@Smallfurry I've got a dynamo and USB charger. Just considering all options to test out.
1000 takes about 2h to full charge off Dynamo. So pretty good.

  • I see the thinking. Kinda safer having Your navigation separate.

I'm not sure about the 1000. But I do find charging Garmins Nice and fast. I've ridden loads With a 910xt both charging and recording. It still charges at less than a minute per percent. I Guess its Down to taste. for me just having the one Device seems easier, as you'd have you speed together With navigation. Making it easier to know in advance when to turn.

  • Single point of failure innit?

  • ETrex and 500/510.

Load 500/510 with route as well, despite no maps, it's still possible to nagivate with it.

  • What's your reasoning?
