@chris_tim Sorry, where I write Garmin Connect I meant Garmin Express - the bridging/syncing thing.

I thought that, the garmin connect thing looks like some gash windows phone display. The express thing is like MS DOS yet doesn't seem to do anything..

Edge 800 back down in price to £166 at Am****
Still can't decide whether to go Garmin or Mio

After defending the 800 for a couple of years now, the little cnut of a thing stopped on me at around the 23hr mark of a ride. It's now stuck in some weird boot loop. I've held power down for 10s at which point the screen fades and it reboots but doesn't get any further than loading maps.
Any ideas on how to fix this/recover ride data? -

I've got a Garmin Nuvi 52 LM here. Any idea how I get it to recognise the map I've copied onto an SD card for it?
I've done this and copied the gmap img file to a Maps folder:

Right, those instructions don't work but copying the gmapsupp.img to a /Garmin/ folder like you would on an Edge 800 did.

Fixed Garmin 800 by:
Non-prompted Non-Vol Clear – Clears NV and deletes all FIT files including Activities, Courses, Workouts.- Make sure device is off
- Hold Lap/Reset and Start/Stop
- Press and release the power button
- Continue to hold only Lap/Reset and Start/Stop
- Release Lap/Reset and Start/Stop when the Garmin Logo is cleared
- The unit will restart and clear nonvol
- Make sure device is off

The basemap lists motorways and a few A roads and thats about it.
Something like this
As opposed to exactly the same view using openstreetmap.

Handtec are always worth a look.

Here is a basemap view of central london zoomed in quite a bit.
The grey line is a gpx track
You can draw your own conclusions but essentially the basemaps are rather less than useful for navigation.

Mine does exactly the same after only a week of use, I'm sending it back and spending the extra £35 on an 810

I'm tempted to get an 810 just to see if there's a difference - where's teh cheapest place? I've done many 12hr+ rides on the 800 without any issues and my 24hr rides haven't failed until last week though so I can't really be too upset about the 800. It still had the fit file on it but it was corrupted somehow.

£235 on amazon ATM
useful clarification! and correction: I deleted over 200 activities and about 40-odd courses. they should take up the same amount of space per file, so I think it should be possible to store many more.
