  • Make sure the cable and the socket on the Garmin are both bone dry- no use drying the Garmin if the cable is still damp.

  • cheers, thought as much. I was on cable #4 when I wrote my post ;-) tomorrow I'll try again

  • any of you Garmin masochists recognise this problem, and could maybe point me toward a solution?

Mine does this sometimes, I can often make it work by applying gentle pressure to the side of the USB cable where it enters the garmin.

  • FYI I have to manually mount mine every time now. They're fucked, since getting 'wet'. I'd warranty if it were mine.

  • cheers, have tried that every single way it budges, to no avail.

@skinny mount manually? is that something I can stil try? I got it wet many times before, will probably return it to Garmin because it doesn't look like I can solve this myself.

  • I think Skinny's referring to the 'install cable while holding lap/reset button' option. Forces the Garmin into mass media mode.

  • Yes. @peter_v as dan says

  • ^This is why I wear my Fenix 2 and use it to record alongside whatever is on the bars (800/Cervo/PC-7).

Frustratingly my SRM won't speak to a Garmin, but the PC-7 is the most reliable head-unit I've ever used, so I am fairly confident that I won't lose that data.

  • ah, yes tried that before/while/after plugging in, several times, apparently my Garmin does not feel like letting itself be forced into mass media mode at all.

EDIT: tried again, and again, it did show the computer icon for a brief moment, synchronised with connect, then it disappeared again. at least now I have the data... I think the usb connection has a screw loose someweher, will send the 800 back to Garmin.

thanks for your help & support

  • Been trying all morning to get my Garmin Fenix II to sync - total failure.

The Bluetooth sync function is incredibly shit - anything I can do to make it better?

iPhone btw - tried it on Android and it was significantly worse, if such a concept is possible.

  • Remote Control! :)

Maybe I should go for a 1000 + external battery pack.

  • @Dammit, from your posts I'm thinking you're not a huge fan of the Fenix2?

Was thinking about getting one when my Forerunner packs up, but you seem to be having a fair few issues.

  • Issue from this morning turned out to be that the Garmin Connect service was borked - but Garmin hadn't told anyone (Twitter, email, note on the site- none of these things), so no-one could upload.

The Fenix II is frustrating because it's so close to being great, but isn't - for example the GPS chip is not as good as the one in the iPhone, so the tracks are quite vague.

I don't know about you, but I'd quite like a bit of specialist sports kit to outperform a telephone.

In it's role as backup recording device it's fine, and for running it's very good (route accuracy aside).

  • Ok thanks. I'm a big Garmin fan but with the recent change to GC and the associated problems I'm seriously considering a Suunto instead.

  • Garmin Connect is a fucking joke. That is all.

  • "virtually everything and anything to do with the Edge 1000 and mobile phone connectivity seems broken (at best)."

This would've been good during supported races where I could at least view texts from my team on the Garmin.

  • How many courses can you have on a Garmin 800?

  • I deleted about 200 from it last week. probably way more than that.

  • just got off the phone with Garmin, I told them about the problems and they said to return it, it's 2 years minus 1 week old and still within warranty so I'll get a replacement (probably refurb'd) item. happy with that.

  • Garmins are wicked, but never trust them. Ever.

    Non-cycling one work a treat I found.

  • Is anyone struggling to sync their 200 with Garmin connect since they changed it all? It all seems cack to me, can't sync the system update or add course onto it.... I swear they real ease new software and let the consumers do the testing these days

  • My Garmin Connect keeps trying to reinstall itself randomly since the last update.

@chris_tim Have you tried dropping courses into the NewFiles folder on your device? I make tcx files using Strava or similar and drop then in manually like this and it works. I'm using as little Garmin software as possible.

  • ^this is what I do.

I've never used Garmin Connect. I havent even got it installed.

  • I haven't yet, I will give that a go. Thanks! Mine also keeps trying to reinstall the software since the last update

  • Cheers, it must've just been a bit funny when I added some so I assumed i'd reached a limit or something. I only had 10 though.

Just to clarify, this is Courses I'm talking about not Activities?
