What is the current map scale?
Zoom in to 300m what do you have? -
• #1378
Go to the Maps option somewhere in the menu system - does it show you Basemap and City Navigator or whatever maps you're using? Make sure the detailed maps are selected?

thanks @freezing77 and @hippy
i think i'm a complete div. i think it was the zoom.
my god. i'll go and hang my head in shame.
however i'm sure the maps look different than they were after this reboot. i'll save a route tonight and go out and ride it and see if the maps look 'similar'.
cheers

Skinny- if you tap the power button, then press the top right icon you should go to the calibration screen, any chance you could do that and confirm that there is an option there to disable auto-calibration, and if it's there what your software release is?
-
• #1381
I've never upgraded the software on either of my garmins, should I be doing this? It's not possible on a non windows/mac computer so it's always seemed like too much hassle.
-
• #1382
Garmin Express sometimes seems to take it upon itself to so do.
Which is a bit frustrating, as it banjaxes the 800's ability to work with my powertap until I re-install the 2.40 software.
There is a Garmin Express variant for Mac.

If it ain't broke...
-
• #1384
Then Garmin will auto-fix it
-
• #1385
There's no Garmin Express for linux so for now it seems I'm safe.

810:
software 3.0
And yes, it's located under sensor details. -
• #1387
This is your track bike right? With a G3 hub?
Why not buy a Powertap head unit for it. They're lighter and cheaper anyway. -
• #1388
Thanks. Cheapest place to get an 810?
-
• #1389
Do you want to auto zero a powetap or srm?
As its not one and the same according to the software.
So don't want to tell you it has auto-zero for powertap
-
• #1390
On the 800 there is a simple tick/untick box to enable auto-calibration.
Totally independent of the type of Powermeter.
-
• #1391
Nope. For 810 it's individual to the powermeter.
-
• #1392
800 doesn't auto-zero. Never has never did in updated. For SRM.

I really want a device with proper navigation but I'm struggling to decide between an 800/810 - the internet is awash with stories from dissatisfied users of both. I've been looking at the mio cyclo 305/505 but apparently they struggle in the rain!
I wonder whether the 800 will come down in price much now it's discontinued (or has it been discontinued for a while?) and will this have implications for the software?

Clingfilm FTW

As above. The 810 is a step up form 800. 800 is a P.O.S, 810 is decent.
-
• #1396
Never had problems with my Cyclo 505 in the rain but they have just royally ballsed up the latest set of software updates so I'm wary of recommending them absolutely.

happy that my Garmin 800's battery lasted all through the ordeal (13h45min, ouch) I tried to upload yesterday's Alpenbrevet data, which is in the device's internal memory not the data card.
My computer doesn't 'see' my 800 though. First time this happens in 2 years. Tried all tricks, like holding reset button while plugging in, restarting computer etc. Nothing works. It just starts up like I'm going for a ride, searching for satellites, no computer icon in screen.
any of you Garmin masochists recognise this problem, and could maybe point me toward a solution?
cheers

Mine did that, drove me nuts - I eventually worked out that there was a tiny amount of water in the socket that was shorting two pins out when I plugged the cable in.
I sat the Garmin on top of the dehumidifier whilst I hung my laundry out, by the time I'd finished the Garmin had dried out and I could plug it in as normal.
-
• #1399
Yeah as dammit says.
Or hold in lap for 10 seconds, then plug in mini usb to it and it should mount.

hmmmm... feeling the nuts bit by now indeed.
as the last descent was very wet I thought it might have something to with water so I did blow dry it yesterday evening (thank god for Swiss holiday apartment equipment) but I don't have a dehumidifier at hand... will try the lap/reset button trick again (and if it all fails, maybe best wait for a full moon night)
thanks guys
I can't fault mine. I've been very happy with it. Nothing is ever 100% reliable, but it's reliability is above acceptable.
It's messed me about once. I stopped bothering using the PC7 as I trusted the Garmin, just enough.
The 810 is definitely a step up from the 800. It just works better.
