• oh no, hope it's better now? totally think it's my left shoulder messenger bag... I think I'm gonna get two straps on my next one!

    44x17

Truthfully i think that saddlebags for long rides are the reall answer.... Also mean shirtless cycling FTW!

It's better now, thanks, hope yours is, too!

Yeah, I'm gonna go for a saddle bag soon. Well, actually, I'm working out how to get the saddle bag I already have onto my bike. I've been tryin out Smiff's swift but I am not happy with it except that it isn't killing my bum and I am more settled (ie, don't move around a lot like i do on my other saddle) so I will be attempting to borrow a B17 to check that out.

  • if you don't want a brooks get a set of these.
i have them on my fizik and makes for happy saddlebag attachment.

  • didn't think those were available anymore! I might get 'em. was testing out a swift, with mixed results. my bum says it's OK, so I'll try a B17 and see how I get on.

  • now when do we get to see that video Tibbs?

  • Yeah, I'm gonna go for a saddle bag soon.

I borrowed this http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ortlieb-large-saddle-bag/?dest=1&curr=gbp&lang=en&utm_source=google&utm_medium=base&utm_campaign=products from a friend when I went to Brighton recently. It's AMAzing, it held my D-lock, pump, tools, two sweaters and food. And it's easy to get on and off!

But yours is really sweet to (what was it?), nice that you managed to get it on! Good seeing you the other day!

  • Get one of Scott not Scot's if you can - they're amazing.

that looks pretty awesome. do you find that it affects the bike's handling or balance at all?

    finally!! just took a month.....

Fantastic flickr set there, nelaii (long time lurker, who looks on all the ride reports from afar with a fair helping of envy). That Hetchins near the end is wicked - whose bike, that one?

intriguing, will need to hassle him for more info :) thanks for the tip!

not really. I couldn't off curbs in the same way (it was like one wheel at a time as opposed to one jump and one landing) and when I was walking with my bike or picking it up, I had to remember the weight was different and treat it accordingly. But when actually riding I can't say that I noticed it. I don't think I'd use it in the city when weaving although I think it would be fine, I'd just rather not. I think overall it was pure perfection, especially for country side journeys.
Main thing is that it can hold a LOT. And probably if what you're carrying is super heavy will affect it more but with what I carried (above) was fine.

That last one? Wasn't part of our group. Alpine Kate had quite a long chat with the owner, I remember hearing her (the owner) saying that her husband ran a website for old bikes but I forget what it was. Sure someone else here remembers? (think it might be in the thread somewhere as well)

also - quite a few people have the old scot/archie's saddlebags, often seen on rides. there were at least two on this ride (myself and Dropout), maybe others...

awesome, sounds like exactly what i'm after. need something for the longer rides this summer, i'm fed up of having my messenger bag!

  • There's only one kind of saddle bag worth having. So there.

  • Le sigh....

    Want to do this again...

    Easypeasy ride ...

    pub stop ...

... more 'partying' at Mill Ponds.

... and then that cool pub a few of us ended up in.

    Le sigh again.

  • no worries ben we will schedule this in again for next year.

...waits half a year for the cold to go away.

pub stops on rides are what its about.

  • Laner and I are doing this route as far as Royston and back tonight if anybody cared to join. Check Essex Afterworkers thread.

  • I will be doing this route again in October sometime

  • I fancy an autumn edition.

  • I've just reread this thread. It was ace.

  • All 17 pages?

  • Yes.

  • ok

ben shall we tag team this shit again?

in saying that i am super busy at the momnet.

only date i have free is sunday october 30th

  • 30th is good for me ... Will think about this after the weekend...

  • Hopefully I'll have a fixed gear bike again by then. I missed this due to an insane hangover last time and don't want to miss it again. Not least of all because Xander might forget how to fix a puncture again.

  • Ickleton Lion is a good bike friendly pub at the bottom of Coploe Hill before Duxford
