Don't want to put you off Jenny but stations are in short supply on this route. Roydon is the only one we actually pass and it won't make much of a ride if you peel off there. Perhaps Bishops Stortford would be a possibility, it's about 5 miles off route.
Or train to Roydon and pick us up as we pass. Would make it about a 40 mile ride from there but I'm guessing the issue is less about the mileage and more to do with the length of time a 6 year old will be happy sat on a saddle?

Tandems are fine on trains.
Kick up a stink and ask where is says you can't take one.
This has worked for me several times. Yes they block the doors, you just have to be considerate and move it as and when required. If my tandem hasn't sold by then and I can find a stoker then I may well tandem it up as well.

I don't have a fixie or ride a fixie at all.
You disgust me.
Good work on this ride Skully. I'm hoping to make it along as my Mum tends to disown me on Mothering Sunday.

Heh, sorry, I meant 'fixed gear bike'.

@ jenny j: Bishops Stortford looks like a decent 6 mile ride from Much Hadham (which the ride goes through), regular trains from there to Liverpool Street.

Sorry man, tell her I'll build one up as soon as I have the funds.

Please also note the following aspects of our cycle carriage policy:
- We cannot carry tandem's, tricycles or bicycle trailers on any of our services. We simply don’t have room – sorry!
BUT
atob.org suggets tandems *are *permitted (and also for firstcapitalconnect (Kings X - Cambrige), which isn't contraindicated on fcc's website).

But if you dig around a bit, NXEA's site also has this to say:
Can I carry tandem's, tricycles, cycle trailers or double deck cycles on your trains?
**Cycle carriage information**
Tandems may still be carried on our mainline rolling stock (the loco-hauled Norwich – London intercity services, the former Great Eastern emus and Class 170 style trains*.
Unfortunately we cannot carry, bicycle trailers, double deck cycles on any of our services. We simply don’t have room – sorry!
*one for the trainspotters :/

I'm not that bothered about it regarding my own mother, but I'll take the opportunity to show thanks to my wife for what she went through in becoming the mother of my child.
By that you mean having to have that sexual intercourse 'thing' with you.*
- sorry, late to the ballgame**
** I'm pissed. Well, it is Paddys Day!

What's a double deck cycle? Sounds ace.

25kg of bike and 25kg of stoker; I guess I'm allowed a few gears.
Want to swap for a bit for a rest?
Someone else do the captaining? You ride their bike?

Hmmm...I'd like to ride one for a laugh...
But knowing how I have a tendency to stack it now and again, wouldn't want to fall that far.
Good to meet you the other day Hoefla by the way.
