Yeah. Disc fork options for straight 1.1/8th frames are curiously limited.

I know!
What build do you have in mind for your missus Howard? -

Triumph call this 'Roulette Green':

The mud clearance doesn't look too good on that.

I would still come last

The tree wouldn't know what hit it though.

Breaks the £1000 barrier slightly...

But it does have a nice matching green wheel.

SRAM Apex from her Surly is going on it. It will be 1x10 and use a Type 2 rear mech. Cranks will be Apex with 38t ring. Cassette will be 12-32. Wheels probably Stans IC on Novatec depending on how mine turn out. Mud ii tyres, tubeless. CX75 brakes and full length Gore cable housing. Finishing kit will be as light as we can afford / get away with.

Been offered a mint Giant TCX frame, 5 years old. Any good or better holding out for discs?
-
• #2538
Marianne Vos does alright on a TCX - hers probably aren't five years old though
Not that that would slow her down.

• #2539
Or you could hold out for one of these:

very sexeh.
This one's alu/crabson in blue/lacquered alu. blue. Never liked blue bikes much for some reason.
-
• #2542
I have to agree - Giant blue is a very dull blue.
If it's a barg though and it fits...could be built up very light
-
• #2543
could get it for £150 quid from a pal who's ridden it about 10 times so tempted to build it up as a SSCX beastie as is the current vogue...
That Giant above is fucking spanking though. Me like much better!
-
• #2544
Like this one. Doesn't really bait the badger does it?
-
• #2545
^ The photo angle and the crazy shim stack don't do it any favors. The poor thing.
^^ Do it.
Then buy the spanking TCX Disc when the ali TCR cracks.

• #2546
Speaking of the TCX, I was impressed with the TCX 1, especially with the excellent TRP brakes it come with.
-
• #2547
Well, TCX 1 and Disc both look nice, one I could get looks fucking shit.
Think i'll keep my eyes out for a second hand BMC SCX... could have bought one cheep a year ago and regret not doing it.
-
• #2548
Those TCX frames are considered the lightest of the alloy frames no? There are tonnes raced around here.
They come with alloy forks though.
-
• #2549
The TCX gruber was offered you mean?
-
• #2550
No, the current model. IIRC the M is 1550g – which is nice.
I've no idea how the older models compare.
^ nice one!
Another disc fork option for non tapered steerers a bit porky though: http://www.fatbirds.co.uk/1606227/products/van-nicholas-vnt-slx-cx-disc-fork.aspx
