All being well, I want to race cross this year. When looking for a frame will sizing be consistent with my road bike, or should I be looking smaller or larger? Trying to figure out what the slacker geo means. If anyone spots a good frame at a good price here or elsewhere give me a shout.

Ps - total noob question, I'm right in thinking you can't race with discs?

You can race with discs. The UCI lifted the ban on them a couple of years ago, but they were never banned in non-UCI races anyway, i.e. local league level.
As for sizing, I'd go for similar or slightly smaller sized frames. Arguably you want to be a little more upright in terms of riding position so check the head tube height and top tube length (although a shorter stem is an option).

I'd not touch those Pinnacles with a barge pole, no fork and designed for people who commute on cross bikes not for racing.

Thanks Andy. I was looking to spend a reasonable amount. If i go budget would look at Kinesis. I'm tempted to go for ti.

I know I'm biased, but Ti is perfect for cross, mainly because it deals with the repeated coatings and then removal of mud far better than any painted frame.
Kinesis would be a good choice. The main thing you need to consider is whether you want to go for cantis or discs, as there will be significant developments in the latter over the next couple of years.

I suspect the Kinesis Crosslight 6 and the Arkose 3 come from the same factory. They do look strikingly similar - although the KC6 has a profiled top tube and a seat stay IS mount.
The Arkose 2 is a re-badged Kinesis frame, anyway.

Or you could have Coldhabour build you a custom in 853?

Geometry is very different thought, medium Kinesis have a tiny headtube whether the Pinnacle of the same size have a massive headtube that would make Dammit cry.

Very spendy, but I like the look and the reviews of the Felt F1X. Where do we discuss best cx frame over £1k?
-
• #2513
When they removed "for £1,000" from the title.

Get a used brand ti cross. Great frames and great buy as you usually get most of it if not all of it back when you sell them if they dident turn out to be a keeper for whatever reasons.

Anything but plastic.
Jokes. I did consider a SuperX but I'm not nearly quick enough to pull it off.

I always though alu was the best material for a cx. But then trail riding a cx bike is usually where I painfully run out of skill most frequently.
Having said that. I was looking longingly at a HongFu carbon cx frame last night. Could get some wide'n'deep carbon rims at the same time. Built up 1x10, with a bar end shifter, and uber shallow drops.....should cover the 2km to work nice and quickly........;)

Any material will do - but I think there's an argument not to go too crazy on the frame and running gear given the abuse it will receive.
But then if you can afford to replace it you can race it.

My frame should be back from paint when I return to the UK, quite excited.

About to pull the trigger on a CrossLight 6 for the missus. It will be....
Green.

When I take the long list of what you can use a cx bike for, and start crossing of what I already have awesome bikes for. I'm left with road riding, and commuting, when its raining. A full carbon frame with deep carbon wheels could be considered overkill.
I'm having issues with my n+1 mathmatics here.

Your sun burn is going to clash horribly with the orange.
Jus sayin.

I really wish you did'nt do that BN. I having project withdrawal having finished the fatbike.
That Pro6 has awesome geometry (at least in my size, not bothered about the normal sizes), a tapered carbon fork. Post mounts for calipers (I hates adaptors). Mounts for rack and guards. Plus it comes in that^green.
In my mind I've already built it up.

Snot green Kinensis frame and fork ordered. Better not leave it next to the snot green 'dale or it might open up some kind of berserker green-singularity.
I have a tapered steerer on my cross bike- I keep having to repeat "bike for the girlfriend, looking for parts for her"
