Proper selvedge jeans

  • I had the same problem, Digger. The jeans in question are now just on the verge of being wearable - from tight round the waist to 3-4 inches of slack taken in by a belt. I'm too attached to them to let them go so they get worn anyway - something weirdly satisfying about wearing proper nice denim as workwear.

    Also, just purchased this:

    Carhartt State Coat.
Heavy Japanese denim (admittedly non selvedge but still very nice) unwashed. First proper denim jacket and I'm already in love!

Also, does anyone know what the whole "Union" and "Union Made" thing is about?

Made by trade union affiliated workers? My Lee storm rider jacket is union made...pretty sure it's just a mark of quality/pride.

  • I've lost weight and now own many loved jeans that I don't intend to be big enough to fit again, I went and traded with Scouse Tony today and now have more realistically sized jeans, what a nice man!

Yeah I've been agonising for months, much loved jeans that really don't fit at all, but Tony said to bring them down the shop to trade and I swapped two for two and threw in some money and I now have a pair of 501XXZ's to break in and a pair of washed '55s, I'm pleased as punch.
    And lovin' the Jacket! Class...

  • For the malnourished amongst you, there is a single pair of Uniqlo Japanese selvage denim jeans in 30X30 reduced from £50 to £9.99 upstairs in the sale shop in The Plaza on Oxford St.

  • Quick denim alteration question. Whenever I've had jeans shortened it's always been a crap finish that looks just like me mum did it at home. Now I've two perfectly lovely pairs of mid 90's jeans (Evisu/Levis) languishing in a cupboard because they are just so baggy, I mean MASSIVE. Both could do with taking up and more importantly a whole leg taper to make them wearable. No hipster skinnyness, just a straight leg cut. But who in London can do this properly ? Online results bring up The Denim Doctor but he's in Manchester, the description of what they'd do and the attention to detail seems bang on, I just need someone in the smoke who does this properly.
    Ideas ?

  • Lazy cunt! Already in this thread!

*'We are different to other denim stores with our choice of products (which are in store but not shown on this website), knowledge, our service & that we offer a chainstitch service in London, on the original Union Special Chain Stitch machines. We are using the original threads from Edwin, Lee etc. So pop into the shop to get your jeans hemmed with chain stitching.'*

They do a proper triple stitch finish

  • Triple safeness, and in a proper 'authentic' location ! And yes I really am a lazy cockbag.....

  • Sample sale at he carhartt store off mare street, picked up some selvedge edwins for £40, loads of other pants there as well, plenty in the usual sizes and most things are between 50 and 80% off.

  • They had loads of carhartt roper pants in black and denim as well for about £30.

    Please stop.... seriously.

  • Maybe I'm being dim but is there no size selection on that ^ page at all?

  • These are the ones I got for £40, not bad for the price

    Fucking amazing for the price.
The rainbow selvedge denim is super nice.

  • went jean shopping today. so glad i didn't order over the internet as the nudie/levis i tried on didn't fit whichever size/style i tried, im skinny as fuck but because of cycling nothing fits round the inner thigh/crotch unless you go super baggy. ended up spending more than i intended on some edwin nashvilles in 29/32. great fit and will be fine with a bit of length shrinkage.
top service in interstate too as the salesman explained where they would shrink and kept bringing jeans to try to get a good fit. i probably could have found them cheaper elsewhere but would have felt bad after that level of service.

  • ^ where's that shop?

  • endell st

a quick search shows the price was good too, some internet shops were more.

  • Got some new APC petit standards the other week from their Shoreditch shop, the fit is superb. Sized down 2 sizes and they have stretched to fit nicely

    This.

It used to piss me off no end when I worked in retail and you'd spend ages serving someone, only for them to announce that they'd be buying the product online as it'd be cheaper.
My advice is part of the price, being able to try the item on is part of the price and being able to walk in, buy it and walk away with it straight away is part of the price.
    Support your retailers!

  • Interstate is a proper shop... Been shopping there a long time... Nice...

  • So where does one by a decent pair of selvege jeans for under £100.
Couldn't find any Edwin or Carhartt (in my size) in London Fields last week.

Albam? Got a pair of the slim leg a few months back, has served me pretty well.

  • ^ +1, they do stretch a bit though so get something that's super tight in the waist and they'll fit properly after a week or so

  • Where did that thread about the Levis commuter jeans go?

  • managed to get a pair of 1955 501's been looking on the net foe washing instructions but getting mixed instructions dont want to over shrink them, so cold wash and hang and drip dry or the wear in the bath shrink to fit?? i have bought a larger size to allow shrinkage, any pointers?
