This pretty much sums up my mood right now
I have a lovely pair of APC new standards that I got a few years back. For whatever reason Ive never really gotten round to wearing them but now that my skulls are falling apart I thought Id start. They are size 28 and I remember when I got them that they were pretty tight to wear, both on the leg and on the waist. Now however they are baggy as fuck. What the hell is going on here?
And no Its not cos Ive lost weight, Ive always been a skinny mofo -

If a 28 waist is baggy on you, you're half dead.
I wore 28 waist when I was like 10-12.... :/ -

So where does one by a decent pair of selvege jeans for under £100.
Couldn't find any Edwin or Carhartt (in my size) in London Fields last week. -

I wore 28 waist when I was like 10-12.... :/APC are vanity sized so a 28 is equivalent to a 30 normally, also raw denim stretches so it is generally a good idea to size down as far as possible in order to counteract the stretching. Anyway, that was my point dont understand how in the hell they can be baggy

Bought a pair of Nudies off ebay. Then thought ah shit, they've probably been washed. Then thought I wouldn't want second hand jeans if they hadn't. Then thought second hand dry denim is not a great idea.
Really need to think this stuff through more carefully

Idiot colleague split an entire pint over my brand new raw denim jeans last night. How should I clean them? Tried freezing them overnight, but the nauseating aroma of stale beer is still there. This is my first pair of raw denim and I don't really know what to do.

Dry clean would be my shout. Also, freezing is only really any use if done for a good few days at least (make sure they're in a sealed bag, too) but it will only get rid of odour and a large spill like that is likely too much.
It's a gutting feeling, I know.
The other week I repaired a couple of crotch holes in my Edwin ED-39s, they're broken in so nicely I was glad to have use of them again. Also repaired (for the umpteenth time) my atelier la durance prescotts and gave them their maiden voyage through the washing machine, came out pretty nicely. The main problem with both these pairs though is that I've lost a chunk of weight since I bought both pairs and they're 3-4inches too big now. Still nice to have a couple of worn in selvedge working jeans though.

perhaps just try soaking them in cold water for a while? might was the beer out while keeping them in shape

That will wash out the excess indigo which will lighten the jeans and affect how they fade in. Will likely soften them a bit too, which will also affect how they break in (the stiffer the denim, the more pronounced any creases will be).
There's no exact right or wrong but generally I thought the common consensus was to avoid washing with water for a minimum of 6 months and dry clean if you really have to wash them during that period.

dry clean
This ^
But make sure you tell them to use hardly any solution or they still come out a bit faded

will they stay 'stiff' if I dry clean? what about a cold wash?

Stay a bit stiff...
Cold wash will soften them, shrink them a bit and bring the indigo out a bit making them 'bluer'

A lot more so than if you cold wash. Any wash in water will wash out the starch and that is one of the main things that makes them stiff.

update: I left them in the deep freeze over the long weekend, and they've come out very fresh. I guess the prolonged freezing killed all the smelly bacteria..?

I've lost weight and now own many loved jeans that I don't intend to be big enough to fit again, I went and traded with Scouse Tony today and now have more realistically sized jeans, what a nice man!

I had the same problem, Digger. The jeans in question are now just on the verge of being wearable - from tight round the waist to 3-4 inches of slack taken in by a belt. I'm too attached to them to let them go so they get worn anyway - something weirdly satisfying about wearing proper nice denim as workwear.
Also, just purchased this:
Carhartt State Coat.
Heavy Japanese denim (admittedly non selvedge but still very nice) unwashed. First proper denim jacket and I'm already in love! Also, does anyone know what the whole "Union" and "Union Made" thing is about?
Was gonna say that Roy is a prick... But I would love to have a hand made pair of jeans like that* by Roy on those machines...
