  • Cheers dude, I'll swing by that market, and check out up thread too.

  • Would somebody here be interested in a pair of brown cotton duck chinos from left field?
    https://leftfieldnyc.com/collections/miner/products/caramel-japanese-duck-miner-chino
Tagged 30" and that's what they actually measure - I can measure up if there's any interest.
Washed and tumbled from the factory.
No tags, worn for a whole day of sitting in the office.
Around 95 gbp shipped to anywhere in europe?

  • Spent today looking at a few selvedge places and picked up some Burgus Plus 880's - even with the shocking Yen to £ they worked out alright value and look mint.

  • I got some Oni denim (612, one wash) while in NYC, remarkably comfortable for weight.

  • As for Tokyo outside Ueno market:

I picked up some nice selvedge jeans from Pure Blue Japan (http://www.purebluejapan.jp/about-us/location), they have an awesome deep indigo colour, the thread used to stitch it is also indigo-dyed so you can't really see it.

Also a pair from Kapital (http://kapital.jp/shop/detail/4.html), who do a heavy and rough old-fashioned denim.

  • Going to Kapital in Osaka. Went to Pure Blue yesterday as well

  • hows the food been ? brilliant i imagine. have a good one denim hunting

  • Food is brilliant. I have to say I genuinely think Tokyo is the best city I've been to. It's a close call between NY/HK but these last few days have been such a blast. Way more relaxed than I'd imagined.

The denim and clothing scene here in general is fantastic.

  • Sounds great me and tbe missis planing to go next year cant wait, going to try to do Osaka Tokyo and maybe one more place. saw the pizza on insta looked delishious 👍

  • What's up with Uniqlo selling selvedge stretchy jeans for £40?
I wonder if they're just embellishing regular denim with a selvedge seam...

  • Selvedge stretch is a thing. Some dislike it, some embrace it. The candiani mill in italy was very proud of theirs. Stretch denim is about 80 percent of all denim. Not offering selvedge stretch would be a big missed opportunity.

    Personally, I'd never wear it.

  • It's more the cost that surprised me.

I like climbing in stretchy jeans but that's about it.

  • Some years ago one of the big old mills in japan was suffering and about to close down. Uniqlo came round with some cash and struck a very good deal. The mill got to carry on, but was bound to sell most of their produce to Uniqlo ar ridicilously low prices. That was when you could get decent selvedge cheap at Uniqlo. The mill (I don't remember which) must since have adjustet the material quality and effort they put in the denim to better reflect the price they get.

    IIRC...

  • Sounds about right. Got a pair of uniqlo selvedge from 2011 that feel totally different (and superior) to the current stuff.

Got some Levi 511s in selvedge in the end.

  • The uniqlo selvedge denim was like £28 2/3 years ago. For 40 bones you can find decent selvedge from tk maxx etc

  • People keep saying this but every time I set foot in that abject place, the only jeans they seem to have are pre-aged and covered in unnecessary buckles and painted on with some dodgy brand. I'll be more patient with the place and keep trying though.

  • TK is so good, it got to the point that I had to stop going in there... I was coming out with a pair of jeans every couple of weeks...

  • TK in brixton was great for denim but you have to really dig and dont just look in your size range go through the lot! I think the Brixton TK used to restock on wednesdays.

  • I never find any but I need a very long leg for my waist.

One day I'll hit the mother lode, I'm sure.

  • I still have these sitting unused. Someone small enough could negotiate a nicer price.

  • ^ I'm usually a 31, could they fit?

  • I don't think so.
    Waist measures 76cm/30 inches.
I'm usually around 28 in western denim and they're too small for me.
    Proper anti-vanity sizing.

  • @Tenderloin posting photos from Kojima, Okayama in 3...2...1...

  • Oh no - I didn't go as we didn't have time to do that and see all of the art on the islands :'(
