Just seen this floating about the web (ok, from The Registers LOHAN project) and thought that it would be interesting as a helmet camera - http://centrcam.com/
Kickstarter here - https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1307511016/centr-interactive-panoramic-video-in-the-palm-of-y
Too expensive for me sadly, but otherwise I'd be sorely tempted...

picked up a go-pro hero 3+ black when I was in the states as it was (relatively) cheap as chips.
anyone got any good sources for tips on editing footage on a mac (best apps to use, good workflows etc)?

You are better off asking in this apple thread...
What sort of editing are you thinking about? Just simply cut and paste, and fading in and out etc? It really depends on what you want to do.

surely they only need to last 20 minutes and then you could swap them out when you stop for a quick pie.

All,
I'm sure this subject has been posted somewhere on here in the past but can I ask for your recommendations on helmet cameras please ?
I'm looking to buy one and just need some opinions.
Thanks.

My brother wants to club together with various family members and get me a Go Pro for my birthday/Christmas presents combined, so I can take it touring and record stuff.
He seems to think because I cycle I know all about this stuff so has basically asked me what they should get and I haven't got a clue. Can anyone help?
I don't even have a clue how these things work but in my head a Good Thing would be:
-Something that I can mount somewhere that's not a helmet/handlebars (I'll be on the back of a tandem so handlebars would presumably result in lots of footage of 6pt's arse, and I don't intend to wear a helmet all the time, only when we accidentally get stuck on motorways and stuff)
-But something I can also hold and wave around so I can do 360 degree panoramas etc (benefit of being on the back of a tandem - you never need to hold on)
-And something I can plug an external mic into so I can record my fantastic commentary (like 'Look! That pig is having a wee!')
-And something that doesn't require loads of charging (it sounds like that might be impossible from a quick skim of this thread)
Any thoughts? I don't really know what the budget is but he sent me a link to a £300 Go Pro as a suggestion so I'm guessing they're OK with going pretty spendy...

I have the gopro 3 black and I think that's the sorta thing worth looking at, the batteries are quite small so you can pack a few spares to bring with you (I have 2 or 3 and that gives me over 300 minutes of filming) the wifi app is useful for when you want to check you've got a nice angle but if you leave it on the battery will run down a lot faster.
Loads of great accessories out there for if, I'd grab the short pole, bar/stem/seatpost/tube mount thing and the head strap if you wanted POV shots without a helmet. None of these take up much space.
You probably already know but it's worth packing a couple of extra cards too.
These mics are good if they're not too large to bring.

Great, thanks, that sounds good. Mic looks good too. Wonder if they'd chuck that in to cover Christmas 2015 :D

If you have a dynamo on the bike, I highly suggest using it to charge the Gopro battery so you won't have to worry too much about filming regularly.

Found these, pre-order, but seems like the best deal i've seen and they're especially for bikes :)
http://www.rideye.com/store/rideye-32gb-comboEdit: They also have a 8gb version for much cheaper as well, but... it's 8gb

Is there any video system that can record for a whole day? Maybe lower res onto HDD or something with the ability to use external power on bike or maybe ciggie lighter in a car?
-
• #296
Do you want to record the whole day? Or keep recording all day? Some cameras let you record on a loop and then save some loops, but the biggest problem is battery life, I use a pebble pro battery, but you can't easily connect this to a go pro with the housing.
There is one http://dashcam.co.uk/btstmembers-orig/?inf_contact_key=770e651947d7fd7664bbadec0849dfde6cde2be69264b67f8d372bd99e2b1d06 which I see has sold out, which records forever until it detects a crash or yo click a button to save a file -

Actually I'd like to record two days solid. Think security/cctv camera.

Years ago friends used to use bullet cam plugged into an Archos recorder for recording more than just a couple of hours that all in one cameras can do.
Something like this: http://www.dogcamsport.co.uk/archos-404-helmet-camera.htm
