How limited are you by size/weight?
One of these (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/371093783490?limghlpsr=true&hlpv=2&ops=true&viphx=1&hlpht=true&lpid=108&device=c&adtype=pla&crdt=0&ff3=1&ff11=ICEP3.0.0-L&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=108&ff19=0) and a decent external battery pack should last you a good while in a go pro recording in a lower than HD res.

Get 36 of those tiny muvi knock offs, £10 off eBay (11 for 5.50 each on the bay... So well under a tenner each), plus a few memory cards. Each camera lasts about 45 mins... Or get something that uses disposable batteries and carry shit loads of batteries.

Well, the lighter and smaller the better. That's where the battery pack option starts to fall down and why I started looking into dashcams for cars. Any idea what voltage/current a GoPro requires? Are there any purpose built extended battery packs for them that could be recharged in a car?
-
• #305
Um, I'd need 64 cameras. Out.

Well it just uses a single luthium cell so 3.7v afaik the standard one is 1600mAh, higher capacity shouldn't be too hard to find.
No reason you couldn't recharge any reasonably sized pack in a car with the cigarette lighter and the right attachment.

Dynamo with an Exposure Revo front light which has a secondary charging port on the back designed for whatever gizmo needs power?

If it's useful for what you doing (and you mount it flat unlike the vid) then it could be cool, I don't really dig time lapse videos of cycling because a. one leans so much that the axis changes and I find it a bit nauseating and b. you might miss things that could come in handy if god forbid you need to use them in court/make a funny video of you falling over.
If you have the time/space/ability you can always create a time lapse in post.

I really like the idea of these.

Any idea how much cycling power do you give away with a dynamo hub?
-
• #313
I guess each hub varies but here's a chart for the shimano SON28 from nearly 10 years ago.

Hmm, doesn't sound like much. Though not something I'd run on a race bike. Cheers

I can lend you one to try - do some testing round Herne Hill on test night and you could establish what the cost was in wattage terms.
I use the Shutter Precision PV-8 which according to the review on Road.cc draws 3.3 watts: http://road.cc/content/review/65840-shutter-precision-pv8-dynamo-hub
I've never noticed the drag when cycling, to the extent that I've ordered one for the Time Machine and will be converting that to permanent lights/dynamo power so that I never, ever have to worry about charging a battery, or having no lights, ever again.

If not for long TT racing it still looks like a good idea for the winter trainer/commuter I'm thinking about. Ta

Anyone using a Virb Elite?

I thought I'd have a go at making my little 720p Kodak bar-mountable.
It's currently setting, my theory is that it should now fit into a standard Garmin bar mount, which in this case will be rotated 90 degrees around the bar from where it normally sits.

I got a GoPro Hero for Christmas, now trying to get it to work - are they meant to be quite difficult to get on with?
Current "why is this happening" is that you can't import from the card in the GoPro, so I've had to put the card into my 810 and import it into GoPro studio from there (as you can't see the card in Finder when the GoPro is plugged in).
Quite disappointed so far in the usability of this camera.

I am amazed they are so popular. I had one, sold it, got another last year, and soon sold that. Just got a garmin virb for christmas, which is way better.
I have a mobius too, https://www.mobius-actioncam.com cheap and very functional. -

For additional LOL's GoPro studio has now decided that my Garmin 810 is actually a GoPro - so it has set it up as Hero-2.
-
• #323
Finder sees my Hero and I import directly from it. Do you need to turn the camera on or something when it's plugged in to the Mac?
-
• #324
It would appear that yesterdays 30 second video was actually a success- today it recorded 8 seconds, then turned itself off.

The Kodak is 300% better, so far.
