• http://www.techmoan.com/blog/2013/7/8/the-mobius-camera-the-do-it-all-mount-anywhere-1080p-micro-c.html looks interesting as a helmet camera, maybe with a SJ1000 as a seatpost cam...

  • Garmin enter the action camera market, looks to be of reasonable quality spec with a few new features that you might expect from a GPS company.
The camera physical profile and the option to operate it from compatible devices to me are good plus points

  • That actually looks really good, and thankfully is much smaller than the picture above suggests.

Still only 3 hours battery life though. Time-lapses of long rides are still not an option without a second or third battery.

What I'd really like to see, if we're unable to move beyond multiple batteries, is an e-ink display on the top that shows the battery life remaining. So if it is mounted on the handlebars you can see when to replace the battery.

Batteries... the real PITA thing about cameras.

    Seen this one?

Some serious BS at the beginning but a 24 hour battery life!

  • It is 95% battery :)

  • Batteries... the real PITA thing about everything electronic in this day and age.

  • Has anyone tried using their iPhone or similar mobile phone charger heads for charging their GoPro batteries? I am tempted to try but the voltage is ever so slightly lower on the GoPro than the iPhone and other mobile phones we have. Any thoughts?

  • I thought they all used a single (3.7volt) lithium cell?

  • It says output 5v on my iPhone charger, doesn't it mean the battery of my iphone is 5v? Sorry if this sounds stupid...

  • actually just had a look at the batteries, they are all 3.7v. So that should be OK then.

  • All* USB 2.0 is 5v that's why you can plug all USB charging devices into your computer, it's standard, this does not mean your devices battery has a 5v output

I'm not sure about mobiles but all of the single lithium (Li-Po, Li-ion and LiFePo) I have dealt with in other applications were 3.7v and I was under the impression this too was standard (like an AA type being 1.5v or the rechargeable ones (nimh) being 1.2.)

    This could be all wrong.
*That I know or have heard of.

  • Thanks for the explanation mate.

  • Indra, you are spot on.

  • ^^ Is that why li-ion type batteries aren't made in the same size and shape as say, AA, to be drop in replacements?

I was thinking that battery life and performance in items that use "normal" alkaline or nimh batteries would be much better if they could run off li-ion cells...

  • Well Energizer do some 'lithium' batteries, not sure what they actually are.

Lithium cells are also of a different shape to AA/Nimh/NiCad where most of those are cylindrical lithium cells are usually quite flat and rectangular.

  • mebbe you could roll it up like a sausage

  • You definitely could fit one into and AA cell but I doubt it's worth it.

I know son devices that take multiple AA cells have a Lithium pack available too and it just fits in place of the other battery.

  • planning on getting a new camera for riding both bicycle and motorbike
looking to get the contour roam 2 as ive used the gopro before but just find it to bulky and out of place contour alot cheaper

has anyone used the contour before? and whats your experience with them? good? bad?

  • Contemplating a Kodak xs100... Am I just as well to get a GoPro? Any one had any experience with the xs100?

  • Is the contour roam good? Thinking of getting a 2nd cam for a project and this is by far the cheapest. Evans does the blue one (who cares abt the colour?) for £136...

  • It seems to do the trick well enough.

Battery life is not great - I think it's about 2 hours at full resolution, which means it's going to run down before you fill a card up.

The video quality suffers in low light too.

  • My GoPro hero 3 last just over an hour... It'd be great if some sorts of device could be attached to the bike and generates power for the camera from pedalling...
