  • Sad state of affairs there Steve.

Good point about water draining but I've not done it before. Then again I'm an idiot so read into that what you will.

Not sure it is needed that much, but as the frame is otherwise equipped to handle almost anything, I found that detail somewhat odd. (I thought it was a common thing to drill the shell.)

  • (I thought it was a common thing to drill the shell.)

It's an ongoing debate. If you don't constantly make sure the hole is clear, you're no better off. The holes quickly get plugged with crap from both inside and outside.

  • Ah, I see.

  • nearly done, just looking for some cheap 28c tyres to complete.

  • i have two 28c marathons spare

  • Rando's are still cheap if you shop around (CRC and Planet X have them at the moment I think).

  • I was waiting for them to come back in Stock at wiggle, and they were about 9 quid earlier.

I was considering building up a Pompino very similarly to this. How are you finding it?

  • Better photo of my crack :/

Compiling email to on-one after a brief phone conversation the other day.

  • I haven't had it complete for long, I'm a big fan so far though. This was my first proper build and it all pretty simple with the amount of info on web

  • Nice. Michelin Dynamics are not bad and are indeed cheap.

  • Crack around non-driveside chainstay. It goes almost 50% of the way around! I've already been harping on around the forum about it, but essentially I've been hearing a knocking/clunking noise under acceleration. I thought it was the BB, it was not :(

Edit - Should be covered by 2 year warranty thankfully...

    Fuuuuu...

I have a noise like that. Was blaming pedal or maybe bb but gonna have to inspect for cracks now.

  • My new Pompino is ordered.

    :)

  • Grats! What size did you end up going for?

  • Medium and in white, just need to decide to go for single speed or try out a 3 speed

  • i found out how much each frame costs on one. 12 quid!

    no wonder they're so cheap.

Ha, that's not true at all, They buy them in at £60.39 and that's a fact.

  • Anyone cold set their pompino? I'm looking to take it out from 120mm to 130mm, the back end looks to be pretty stiff though...

  • Wouldn't call it cold set but I have a 126mm wheel in mine, it goes in no problem, barely need to pull frame apart.

So I reckon going to 130mm would be easy enough.

But then I think about cracked chainstays. Haven't checked mine yet :S

  • Whats the need for 130mm anyway?

  • Kaffenback, surely?

  • No the Kaffenback's also made by On One, you're thinking of a Cross Check.

    I'll get my coat.

  • Kaffenback is spaced to 132.5mm to allow for 130mm or 135mm, and also has the swapouts so you could run SS/fixed with the right dropouts. And, essentially it's the same frame as the pompino but with a few more brazons and different spacing at the rear :)

I'm almost tempted to ask for my warranty replacement to be a kaffenback...

  • I'm having trouble with my rear wheel not staying put. I htfu and tightened it today but if it moves again i was going to get some chain tugs. Has anyone had any problems with any brands not fitting or are they all about the same? recommendations?
