If going the drops route I recommend Cane Creek SCR-5 levers and some Avid Shorties.

mine just pop off pretty easy.

yeah i figured just as much! thanks, left one is off, right one however is very stiff, yeah i think i'll try that cranky thanks again.
any thoughts on Cantis vs V brakes?
Do you plan to off road on it? If the answer is "yes, extensively" then I'd get cantilevers for the mud clearance they offer. If you'll mainly use it on the road then mini vs offer much better braking performance. Planet X are doing these Tektro mini vs for £20. I've recently bought a pair and like them a lot, although braking was improved further with a pair of Swissstop green pads.
I'm using them with SRAM S500 levers on drop bars btw.

i'm going with risers guys, and yes mainly on road don't think i'll ever need the mud clearance that Cantis offer then :) does anyone know how those Tektro minis will perform with risers and usual brake levers or can offer alternatives?
you guys have all been great help so far cant thank you enough, spreading rep to you all!

If you're using 22.2mm bars, you can just use any MTB V-brake with matching levers. With mini-V, you'll want flat-bar road bike levers, e.g. Shimano BL-R550

I have exactly the same set up as Andy on my Pompino (S500 and Tektro Mini-V). Much better braking than cantis, even with cheap blocks. I mainly ride mine on the road.

If you're undecided on fork and want something straight, the kona p2's look and feel great. They also come in various brake options. I'm using a p2 touring fork with canti bosses, disc tabs, mudgaurd eyes and low rider rack mounts. Pretty much future proof!

• #3084
Yep, using P2's on mine

• #3085
ahhh thats great Dtroll! wasn't aware they came in different options i had seen yours (dopest) and just hadn't bothered to ask what they were as obviously yours are disc.
do any of you know where is stocking the Vbrake version currently? i've had a google but it doesn't seem to get any resultsand thanks tester i had no idea there was so much in flat bar brake levers, im looking to use over sized riser bars eventually as i have an oversized stem and i like the look of the oversized bars (does this mean that they don't all taper down to the same size?)
so i may just end up going with any old V-brake package.as i cant afford it all at once i'm gonna use it fixed i think for a little while with my current cockpit which is a short deda stem and some deda bullhorns actually interested to see what this will look like as i haven't seen any pomps yet with bullhorns (maybe thats for good reason haha)

Looks good. You're using time atacs too. Wish mine didn't have the canti mounts now I've fitted a disc brake, but if owt goes wrong with it I can always put a v brake on again.

~My bars up there ^^^ are OS at the clamp, I had some risers but I couldnt get the brake on far enough as they started to get fatter a lot closer to the grips.

Coventry eagle had a p2 fork for sale. I got mine from him too. I'm not sure what brake they're for or steer length or even if ^he still has them.

The sticker is such fucking poor taste.

yeah had a look for the P2s some on ebay at £70 they're just boasting that they're "vintage", "rare" and "hard to find" but they arent in that good condition for me to willingly part with £70
another option is that BLB currently have their FGFS fork on clearance with aesthetic paint defects for £20 and then maybe pay to eventually have v brake mounts and guard mouths welded on or just cough up later on for a different fork.
may even just run the rear brake single speed but then i wont be able to do endos and endos are cool.

• #3093
haha and yeah think the sticker on dopest's bike was mentioned a couple of times before, personally i had completely forgotten it was there!
-
• #3094
My mate jim is dead good at fixing bikes.
-
• #3095
you should have had a sticker that said that then. all of this would have been avoided.
-
• #3096
I know right.

may even just run the rear brake single speed
This is a really bad idea.
-
• #3098
You might be able to use clamp on canti bosses on those forks.

• #3099
On-one seems to be out of stock of large in all colours.
They also have rather small stock in most sizes.
Is it just a temporary thing, are they going to keep making pompinos? -

Or a standard calliper brake.
Much depends on lever choice, imo. You going drops, or risers/flats?
