Any suggestions on making it cheaper?
especially the front hub
Any hub made for a 9mm diameter skewer plus this axle:

Could probably save £15 of the seatpost pretty easily.

If you're really going for cheap, a Shimano FC-S500 crankset is about £50 less than the On-One and comes with a stylish chainguard for that day to day parcticality

You could get a good crankset 2nd hand on here for about £60

Aye, these are by no means the final parts, just stuff I've looked at to get a rough idea of the cost of this build. I'll be trying to source as many of the components cheap /second hand for sure.

Front disc brake wheel, I have this on my pompetamine. I've got 700x25 tyres on it, I dont think 23s would stay on the rim.
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=70138Way cheaper than a build, and the wheel has been good to me.

I wanted to too, but I picked up six centre lock rotors for a fiver each, so it made sense to get the wheel.
-

propitiatory Centre-Lock rotor mount ..
this means nothing to me.
I have zero experience with disc brakes.

The 6 bolt one just screws into an ISO hub. This is what most disc brake wheels have.
The centrelock one is a shimano one, they pop on and you tighten a cap on it with a cassette lock tool.

Might be a little clearer if proprietary was spelled correctly.
-
• #2565
ahh I see. I reckon I'll go for a 6 bolt.

• #2566
This is where I'm at, just need to choose a brake and then work out ways to get all this stuff cheaper.

Where does £20 powder coating?!
-
• #2568
there's a place in manchester, to be honest it's probably more than that, ive not actually checked yet.
Chicago coatings, Ashton under lyne - £20 a frameset blasting included, used by lots of people.

can i ask why TB14 rims?
-
• #2570
I wanted something wide and low profile, I like the look of TB14's but I'm open to cheaper/similar options. This build is a way off yet, so I have time to look at other options.

Mavic A319?
-
• #2572
your current setup minus spokes and build is at £160, why not just get an OTP 29er wheelset? It will be cheaper. Dunno if you want to make this a nice build or budget build ..

Mavic A319?
aha cheers!

Mavic A319?
porky close to 600 grams but yeah, cheap.

budget but I dont want it to look like shit.
To be honest I have zero experience building anything other than a track bike so I'm learning as I go along. I'll have a look at some 29er wheelsets.
cheers.
This is what I have so far.

especially the front hub, it needs to be disc brake compatible obviously but it also needs to be solid axle for the rack to attach to. I was trying to keep this build around the £600 mark.
