Suggestions for a CX frame+fork suitable for a 5'5" rider gratefully received.

Have you seen the Roux Conquest series? Not well known by any means but pretty compact geo in relation to other cx frames.

According to the "rule of thumb" guide on the Kinesis site here F, at 166.5cm would be bang on for the 51.

• #2382
Ah, well then, the 51. I think that would be a much better idea than the kaffenstein, much nicer too. But obviously it's not my bike or my choice ;-)

To be honest I'd ruled it out as too expensive, but then messing around with the Kaffenback would end up being silly expensive, also.
I wonder what that one on eBay will go for?

Can be had for 440 new, that one has been built and ridden....350-380 I'd have thought. Surely you could get at least 200 or so for the Charge? Meaning its only actually 150-180ish, and at the worst, 239.99.
Like you say, the PX could be expensive and turn out to be utterly shite...no frame warranty either.

Zero interest in the Apex on here though

Surely this is crying out to be a custom build ? Perhaps in a moderately priced tube set
-
• #2387
Or just punt the Boardman fork on eBay to someone who's front-ended their bike and written off the fork ?
-
• #2388
I hadn't thought of that. I'm clearly not very clever.

I'm not trying to wind you up ! But personally if I were having custom work done to an otp frame I'd just get a whole custom frame instead, saving some cash by not going for 853 or what have you (suitable geometry > expensive alloys)
-
• #2390
I'm ahead of you there- it's still more expensive to get a full frame than it is to get a few bits replaced/altered.
Anyway, I have hopes for that Pro6
-
• #2391
Fair enough, I just figured the price differential might be less extreme if building in 4130.
-
• #2392
It is cheaper to use a more basic tubeset than, say 853, but there is a minimum amount of work needed whatever the tubeset and that becomes the bulk of the cost.
-
• #2393
853 is £250 (i.e. 70%) more than 525 at Steve Goff
-
• #2394
I didn't know that Steve Goff was so cheap!
-
• #2395
in all seriousness, save a bit more and go to a great value frame builder like steve goff
.
;-)

If Dammit didn't need telling everything twice, his post count wouldn't be >30,000

I love my pomp, but im thinking about spreading the rear triangle and converting it to 1x9, anyone done this kind of thing?

I've had one coldset by a frame builder to 135 to fit an alifine 11 speed hub. It works fine but do it at your own risk. A lot of frames have snapped at the crimps on the chain stays. You might be better of selling the frame and getting a pompetamine or kaffenback to replace it.

I'm looking at road spacing (130) which is still quite a jump of course!
Some of the advice says about bracing the weak points on the frame when you do the cold setting - are the snaps happening during the process, or afterwards over time during use?

I clearly need to learn to search/read thread, apologies chaps - this conversation seems to have been had about 100 times on this thread alone heh
Oh I admit that. Might be fun though.
I'll probably do something else, mind you, when sense reasserts itself.
