Just had my first quick spin on a pompetamine. Way to big for me (a L) but it was awesome nonetheless.
I was really surprised how not heavy it was. Not "light" but really not heavy. Also although I think the fork's a not the most flattering it is actually very nice when riding.
It definately makes me want one even more.

please excuse the shit cellphone pics and any other indiscretions i make.
my newly built pompino. looks much like any other except with a twist: its got a modified 8 spd Nexus hub and (extortionately priced) j-tek shifter. why go to the hassle of putting gears on a track-spaced bike? curiosity with internal hubs started it, then I got all lusty over the sscx pomps i was seeing everywhere.
all the geared pomps i've seen have zip ties coming out of everywhere, so the challenge was to keep this looking as if it was single speed. I ended up using a v-brake noodle thing running under the bb, which works great.
The idea is for this to be my commuter as well as tourer, and down the track I plan to build a matching fixed/single speed rear to swap out when it takes my fancy.
i'll be getting guards and a rack for it soon, if you care to make any suggestions.
btw the silver rim/black spokes/gumwall idea is shamelessly ripped off the gunmetal grey pomp that gets posted every couple of pages here.

nothing special - off a cannondale quick then rattlecanned. they used to look like this:

Tidy build, it looks really smart and it's a nice idea with the Nexus hub.
Think you may have to build a new bike for the track though - may be easier and less frustrating than changing the wheel, chain, chainset and bars and removing the brakes every time you go down there, plus the Pomp doesn't have the most aggro of geometry.

I don't think he meant velodrome when he said 'down the track', it's an idiom meaning 'at some future time'

I see. You may be right there

correct, this (or I) won't be going anywhere near a track. I'm well aware of the geometry, in fact I got this frame because I was sick of my road bike's general ineptitude at cobbles/pot holes and dirt tracks.A single speed rear would be to make it a bit nippier - the rear wheel alone weighs 2.5kg undressed. that said I was surprised that the whole bike weighed in at exactly 11 kilo, and it certainly still feels sprightly enough.

How did modify the hub to fit in a 120mm spacing?
-
• #2118
I run an Alfine hub. Coldset the frame to fit the hub.

Cycled round Fiji, NZ, bits of Australia, most of Europe on a Viking Severn Valley[1955] which I adapted for touring.
Just done up a 1980's Bob Jackson touring bike as a road bike. Gives a really positive, firm ride. Great !!! Thanks to Reynolds 531 double butted tubing....... -

What size is the chainring on that geared pomp? Or what's your neutral g i ?
Seems like you'd have a lot of spinning...
