I wouldn't do anything to cause a fuss, I was just trying to see if they needed photo ID or something..... I'll look into insuring myself before I do anything else. I have emailed them with a good effort ( I was hoping to do it for charity, anyway), but haven't heard anything back yet....being Italian though, they might not have read it yet! Ill try again tonight, as I want the whole experience if possible, and not just to do it furtively..... Fingers crossed, one way or the other!

I think ,rather than risk the possibility of fucking up anyone else's chances for subsequent years, I will concede defeat for this year.....gutted.
I will DEFINATELY be going next year though.......properly!Thanks for the offers of help though ;o)

Peter, what sort of pedals have you got there on the Nishiki? And the tyres?
I rode to Knokke on Saturday (perfect day), and despite the zero elevation, my knee felt it. I think it's safe to say that my knee won't want to see any hills before Chianti, I'm afraid. And, I am now certain that I will do the 75km instead when I get there.

I'm most definitely in next year.
I'm annoyed at myself for not getting the dough together, but it's been a tight year. Those selfish children keep growing and demanding more shoes and clothes. If they'd just stop eating, like I suggested, then I'd be able to go for lovely bike rides in the Autumn Italian sunshine.I'm getting drunk on Chianti on the day of the race, so they better not get too close to the back of my hand...

They're utterly incorrect Shimano 105 triangular pedals. I think I'll replace them with some period-correct black Kyokuto Top-Run units I just found. The tyres are old worn Michelins and I'm rather surprised they held up during the Retroronde ;-) will have to get some 25mm Pasela's I think
Shame about your unwilling knee, I hope you'll be able to ride it pain-free in Chianti! We'll surely meet up there.
Skully & Lucifer, too bad you guys won't be there!!
How's the line up of forumengers looking now then?

There are some photos of my newly renovated 531C Revelle Rapide in the following link. I have a nice low gear (42/34) thanks to the Shimano hyperglide 6 speed, so needed a replacement long-arm derailleur. Apart from that, its still Shimano 6oo speed non-index gearing and original Campag hubs and Ascenti rims, re-built with new spokes. Pedals are non-original, but comfortable.

I'll be in Pisa the weekend before 24th-25th Sept.
you just match your name to your entry - no id required BUT the whole purpose is insurance, if you fall off your bike i don't know whether your liability insurance will cover it and it could get messy? cycling in an organised event abroad i know isn't covered on my insurance
also bearing in mind that 3 people died in 2009 it's probably not worth jinxing it... they are very friendly though - could be worth giving it a go via email with a sob story. one of the organisers might fall for it seeing as though we're not italian and they like people to travel for the event?
