That's mildly irritating :)

I returned mine to get the HY/RD. Fingers crossed no such problems with them...

It's catching, SRAM have just issued a recall for all their hydraulic disc and rim brakes, due to seals failing at low temperatures.

Oh FFS. Guess it's time to buy the 'Early Adopter Idiot' T-shirt. And that it's time to spend the NIB S700 calipers and levers back to Mr. SRAM.

Overheard at a CX race in Alaska last weekend;
Mechanic - "Looks like you've blown a seal."
Rider - "No, that's just frost on my moustache." -

Just received an email from fatbirds and they will replace all returned TRP Spyre with new redesigned ones.
-

I can't recall there being a statement about them paying for the postage though. I have £250 of spyres - that's not going to be cheap to post.
-

Not implicit but the email I received did say "or in UK to contact distributor Upgrade Bikes Ltd, Customer Service to arrange a return shipment." My interpretation is that postage will be refunded.

Road disc hubs. Options, opinions, experiences?
-
• #112
By road, you mean 130 spacing?
-
• #113
Yes. From a cursory search I've only seen disk hubs for 135 spacing. Had been hoping Goldtech might do something.
-
• #114
Road spacing disc hubs are quite uncommon, as 135mm is the preferred option.
-
• #115
That clears that one up for me then. Cheers

• #116
Novatec D352-SB is the default OTP option
-

I have a rear built up with a 130mm spaced Novatec disc hub. Does what it needs to do, but won't fit in the wife's 135mm spaced Kinesis frame.
Having said that I regularly mixed 135 and 130 spaced hubs in a 130 spaced alu frame without explosions / instant death etc.

Good to know. I'm thinking of getting a road disk frame built. Steel, obviously, so will spread 5mm if necessary. But i'd rather just have a hub the right size. And given that the rims will last a long long time, would like nice hubs. Maybe more choice will develop over the next year. That said would 130mm disk hubs be able to be made much more svelt than MTB hubs? If not then no reason not to have the frame made with 135 spacing.

135mm make more sense due to the spoke angle, thus a stronger wheel, and much more choice (like simply buying 29ers rims), hell nearly all CX disc frame nowadays (and some road disc) have 135 spacing.

Your choice of disc hubs would be far larger if you go with 135mm and there's loads of lightweight mtb hub options too.
I think 130mm disc hubs were just a bridge, used by some manufacturers who adopted the use of discs early on. As far as I'm aware, most new disc cross and road bikes will be 135mm.

• #121
Yeah I'd imagine there's precisely naff all difference in weight rd vs MTb.
But I never really looked in to it.
Whatever - get the frame spaced at 132.5 etc
-
• #122
Until they all end being changed to pointless thru-axle designs >:(
-
• #123
Is it pointless? What are the pros/cons?
-
• #124
I'm thinking of getting a road disk frame built. Steel
Then again, if you're going for a custom frame, you could have the option of swappable dropouts. -
• #125
Now there's an idea! Would that work with discs?
Have you trued the disc rotor as well?
