Just had a go on some brand new, un-bedded in Spyres... And they are excellent, I expect they'll be even better once bedded in as well. Think I'll be purchasing some for the Boardman.

If they are good enough for Helen Wyman etc
-

I have one sitting on my desk, still faffing on the hub that I want. Decisions, decisions.

Aye, I have also seen BB7s in use in competition, and they're pretty shit in all honesty...
-
• #81
I don't think a two time euro Champ would race with brakes that are pretty shit.
BB7 is an outdated design; avid got away with not evolving them for far too long. But in. fairness if you set them up right they are streets ahead of a canti or mini v.

Wait and try the HY/RD one first.

This I agree with, the performance of the Road BB7 are awesome.

I disagree, I found BB7's to be a monumental pain in the arse to run. They require far too much maintenance, I was basically having to adjust them every time I used them and even then, they never offered superior performance to cantis.

andy, what kind of discipline do you use the bicycle for?
I'm only speaking from a commuting/touring/club ride perspective.
-
• #85
Cyclocross.

I set a pair up this morning, the thing that takes the time is getting the rotor totally flat.
However- as Andy says I know that I'll have to constantly adjust them from now on in order to keep the performance adequate.

The MTB ones are good mind.

+1. That's why I've ordered some SRAM S700 hydraulic shifters and calipers for my Croix de Fer.
-
• #89
R785 or GTFO
-
• #90
Later. The Croix de Fer has SRAM Force at the moment, so the S700 stuff is an easy swap. The Big Plan features R785 or its successor, but only once I've really got welding titanium nailed.

£428 for shifters and callipers from Rose Bikes at the moment, if someone wanted my new-in-box Ultegra Di2 shifters for, say, £150 then I'd order the R785's on Monday.
-
• #92
Cycliste is having Di2 temptations (courtesy of me). Will get back to you ASAP on the shifters...
-
• #93
Cycliste says no. Personally, after a week of listening to graunching gears, missed shifts and cross-chain grinding I think Di2 is an excellent idea, but apparently I am alone in this.

Ah well. I'd like to go the R785 route, I will advertise the levers in the main forum.

Anyone wants a BNIB TRP Spyre? Been sat on my desk since I got it, the switch to disc is stalling and I am looking more likely to get the HY/RD so this is up for sale. I paid 63.99 and would take 60 for it or will be in the post back to fatbirds on Monday.

Avids are generally less reliable (according to internetsters) but mine (several pairs on multi bikes) have been fine. I've shimano and hopes and both have been great and entirely maintenance free for several years. Purely due to jnternetguff , I'd buy shimano over Avids. So far as your annoying rubbing problem goes, is there any playin your hub? This will allow the disc to move under the pressure of riding but may be fine on th stand.

Bled the brakes recently?
-
• #98
Hmm, I may just have a pair of decent avid juicy 3s going if you're interested
-
• #99
Has anyone used the HY:RDs yet?
-
• #100
No... but is that relevant? Other things being equal it can't hurt but my issue is more about unpredicatability of set-up not lack of stopping power.
Sounds like possibly oil on the pads or warped rotors.
